Panguitch or Monroe - Archery

Which unit would you use your hard-earned bonus points on - Panguitch Lake or Monroe? I'm looking for archery and the best bugling for big bulls...which unit would you recommend? Also, the less pressure from other hunters (deer, spike, etc), the better...

Many thanks,
Corey

You'll have a great time with drawing either one, but if it were me, i'd say Monroe.
There are so many nice bulls up there it's scary!!

How many points do you have, and res or non-res?

I would say Panguitch is every bit as good as Monroe, but there several 'other' LE units I would chose over either for archery.

San Juan would be my choice. But it this one or that one . Panguitch would get the nod, I just know it better then Monroe.

8 points, non-resident. I think I am getting close to being able to draw Monroe or Panguitch, but am quite a ways away from Pahvant or San Juan. Other recommendations for great bugling action would also be very welcomed, but I have been leaning towards Panguitch or Monroe for 4-5 years. Advice?

Many thanks,
Corey

I would agree that you are getting close but I would not get too excited yet. If I am reading the statistics correctly both of these units have had 1 "max point" non resident tag. In '07 there was one person who applied for Monroe with more points than you and six for Panguitch. In '06 it was the opposite with more demand for the Monroe tag.
With just one max point tag it will be hard to know when you will draw. You never know who is out there just building points and decides this is the year they want to go hunt archery elk in Utah....and there goes your max point tag.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-07 AT 12:53PM (MST)[p]why the big drop in NR apps for Monroe and Panguitch for Archery 2006/2007 NR?

101/64 and 117/78 respectively

Alot of hunters 'chase' units based on last years applicants and last years bull harvest quality. IMHO both of these units are way over-rated, with a few units that are better that have much better draw odds. NR's are at the mercy of the rumors and the 'famous' units fo rthe most part.

Pro,

Would you care to elaborate? Obviously I am at the mercy of relying on the opinion and experiences of others as I am a non-resident - but typically units become 'famous' for a reason. If you have suggestions or advice, I'd love to hear it.

I'm looking for an opportunity to hunt bugling bulls with a chance of shooting a respectable bull with my bow. I'm not worried about hanging a sign that reads "400 inches" around it's neck when it hits the dirt...I'm just looking for the best experience to spend my points on. And from what I've gathered from many others, the Monroe is a great place to hunt. If there are places that are better that aren't as hard to draw, I'm all ears. My e-mail is [email protected] if you wouldn't mind sending me an e-mail.

Many thanks,
Corey
