LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-04 AT 02:47AM (MST)[p]I finallaly got my buck this year. I will probably not post any pictures though. It is only a big two point plus eye guards. Not much to brag about but he was really thick. But thought some of you might enjoy the info.

I have not hunted the Entiat much and had no idea where I was going. I just started driving and stopped at a likely looking spot and started walking (down hill). I walked down into a draw that had an open hillside on the north. The south side was thick timber but was all burned up with a lot of good bedding cover underneath. I was walking on the north side and looking into the timber.

I stopped once and sat down against a stump. I put my hood up because the wind was really howling. After a few minutes I heard a deer blow. I took my hood off and began looking around. It took me several minutes but I finally located a two point across from me, staring at me. He blew a couple more times then walked up the ridge.

I walked about 200 yards further down the draw and sat down against a log. I started glassing all around me. After 10 minutes of glassing I looked directly across from me into the timber and there was three deer standing there feeding. I think they must have just gotten out of their beds.

I saw that one was a buck and from the side he looked pretty good. I had already decided to take the first legal buck I saw since I only had one more day to hunt. When he turned his head I saw the eye guards and then Boom!

I got to him and lasered back to my position. It was 186 yds. He's not much to brag about but pretty good for a two point. He has a lot of mass and gnarly bases.

I gutted him and brought the front shoulders and head up to the top of the ridge. I was way down in a really nasty hole surrounded by blow downs. I called my brother-in-law and he responded with a friend to help me get him out.

To make a long story a little shorter..We hiked back out the ridge to get my deer and guess what was standing out in the open above my deer? Yep, you guessed it. A pretty nice four point with 3 does. We watched him until dark and then got mine out. He never looked at us and just fed around on the open hillside for about an hour.

I never saw another hunter hiking away from the roads. Everyone I saw was road hunting. I think there are alot of bucks in the area if you just get off the roads and hit those burned timber stands.

I posted this just in case someone is planning on hitting the Entiat before Friday. I was in the area of Crum Canyon. I plan on making this my new hunting camp spot.

Good luck to all who still have a tag.

Good job dude!
Don't be ashamed to show us pics because it is not a monster! It is nice to see any pics from a successful hunt.
It is a magnet for roadhunters. I am hoping to nail an archery mulie during Thanksgiving week, above Chelan. If not, it's another Ferry County whitie for me.

Yep, that sounds like a cool buck, bring on a pic or two! I know you've probably thought of this, but announcing the area on here may be a blunder of epic proportions!! There are a lot of hunters in Washington.....

Good Luck and Congratulations!

Hey Polarbear,

Did you draw a Eniat tag, have you hunted there before. I will be there over the thanksgiving week also I have taken 2 over there but did not draw a tag this year. I will be in the swakane area probably.

Good job man....don't be ashamed to show it off, I'm sure it looks and tastes better than your tag.

BTW....how much snow is over there?

Cool story, share a pic, my buck this year wasn't the biggest but we all enjoy seeing the bucks that have been taken.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-27-04 AT 03:16PM (MST)[p]There is no snow down that low but there is some around Duncan Ridge. I've hunted around the area before. I'm from Cashmere originally but this area was never MY hunting spot. As for telling the area that I shot this buck.. I'm not too worried about it. That is some huge country with roads everywhere. I'm not drawing anyone a map to the ridge I was hunting on. All of those canyons hold deer.

My brother-in-law drew that late Entiat rifle tag and I was really just scouting the area for his hunt, as I'm gonna help him out on it.

Just wanted to give some hope to those of you who are still left with a tag. I like helping people get their bucks. The bucks are still there and in good numbers from what I saw on my little walk. Just get off the roads and hunt those burns. I saw a ton of beds in there and at least two different sets of tracks from big bucks.

I'm not "ashamed" of my buck by the way. If I would have been I would never have shot him. I'm just not real computer literate. I only use ot to play games, read mail and monitor hunting sites.

Good luck all! Two days left!

Dont be hunting this bear! Haahaaaa....
No I dont usually put in for special deer tags. I hunt the late archery season in Eastern WA. Usually Chelan/Manson area for mulies and Ferry County (Republic) for late whitetails. Plant to head over the day after Thanksgiving, stop and hunt a day or two around Chelan and, if I cant get a mulie, head over to Republic for the rest of the week. I love hunting the rut with a bow!

Bearhunter,

I was actually thinking about trying for a whitey in this state, i have done so calling in other states for them with good success. When is the peak of the rut over in Republic if you dont mind helping a guy out. I have seen some of you whitey pics in the past you obviously know what your doing. Any suggestions would be awesome.
