Here are some pictures of my first elk I got this year in Nevada. I have been going to post them for awhile but had to figure out how to do it. Anyway, we found this bull the day before the season. My brother inlaw Jared spotted this bull from over a mile away bedded under a burnt tree. We put him to bed that night and hoped he would be there in the morning. The next morning we got up to our look out point and found him at first light. We put a good stalk on him and was right above him in some rocks just waiting for a good broadside shot. Everthing was working out perfect until we could hear a jeep coming up the road down the canyon. Well the bull and his cows heard it too and they hightailed it out of there. Well, needless to say, we were more than a little disappointed. The Jeep came up the canyon a bit, turned around, and left, never seeing the elk or the disappointed hunters sitting at the top of the mountain. Well, the elk headed another mile up into the deep canyon and we lost them in the trees. We went back to the truck and grabbed a bite to eat and then headed out for the canyon. It pretty much took us all day as we slowly moved up the canyon. There were deer every where so we had to wait them out and try not to bump them over into the elk. As the sun was getting low in the western sky we spotted a bull. As we watched, we found it was a 6x6 we had seen earlier. We sat down and started filming the bull and glassing around. Then it happened. We heard an elk chirp down in the bottom of the canyon. Jared was sitting a little higher than I was and he saw the bull first coming up out of the bottom. I already had my gun set up and my friend Mica, who was filming the other bull, had to hand the camera to Jared because he was behind a tree. Well, in a matter of seconds we were all set up and ready to roll. The bull trotted up the hill and then turned back to look to see what was behind him. That is all it took and and I let the 7mm mag roar. Instantly there was the thud of a good hit as the bullet smacked him right behind the front shoulder. The bull turned and started trying to head uphill. I put another round in but had lost him behind a tree so I had to get up and go around the tree. I pulled up with the second shot and hit him in the front leg. He was stumbling now but kept trying to get back up and go down hill. As he spun around I layed the third one to him in the opposite shoulder and down he went for good. We were all as excited as we could get. We hurried down the hill and up the other side. It was a steep climb up to him and we got to him just as the sun was going down. It was awsome to walk up to him. We snapped a few pictures, got him cleaned up and taken care of. Then we hiked back to the truck in the dark. The next morning my dad brought up some horses to help us pack him out and my father inlaw also came and helped with the work. It was an awesome hunt and we got it all on video. Now if I can ever get figured out how to put up video I will try that sometime. Well he was an awesome elk even though he had a broke 3rd on one side and a chipped 5th on the other. Too bad I have to wait another ten years before I can put in here in Nevada again, because I can't wait to get up there and do it again. Levi
