Fishlake vs. Book cliffs elk

I am constantly torn between which two units to apply my father and myself to (separatly) as NR. We bowhunt, but I also sometimes put in for muzzleloader if there might be a conflicting hunt elsewhere.

Which unit do you like better and why? What are the differences?

Thanks DonV

I have never hunted either for LE elk, but right off I can tell you that the limited deer hunters on the Books would be a plus for that unit. Also, Success rates are better on both Book Cliff's units. Plenty of elk on both units. Personally I would probably go with the Books. Although it is further from the airport if you are flying in. Good luck in which ever unit you choose. Both are fairly well known by a lot of guy's who could give you some insight I am sure!

I haven't spent a lot of time on the Books, but the few times I have been out there, and from what I hear from others, it would be a good unit to archery hunt. I have spent a lot of time on the Fishlake and know there are some good bulls, at least in my eyes, on that unit. We have taken a 383 bull for my daughter 3 years ago, and a 377 for my wife last year, both on rifle hunts, and seen many others great bulls in the process. The unit has many types of areas to hunt depending on your preference with oak brush, mahogany, sage, aspen, pine, etc, depending on the area of the unit you are in. There are easy areas to hunt, and really ugly areas where not many guys go. I know a lot of guys who have had excellent luck on their archery hunt, yet know of a bunch who hated every minute of it...but that's hunting.
I feel either way you go, you will be pleased with either hunt..
If you'd like more info, I'd be glad to help you out all I could.

Here's our Bull from this past year....BC-Roadless, Rifle hunt
Saw lots of good bulls, but were only to connect on this one.
I think he taped out about 300".
Great Unit from what we were able to see/scout.
