JIMBO12-

I live up here in the St. Joe country. There are some great bulls up here if you can get to them. If you look at the Idaho record book, you'll see 7 of the top 50 typicals and 3 of the top 20 non-typicals came out of the St. Joe area. There is a lot of real thick timber mixed with clearcuts. Obviously the elk aren't out there stading in the middle of the cuts on opening day though. They are in the thickest stuff they can get into. Not neccesarily that far from a road since there are a lot of logging roads throughout the area. The elk up here are getting used to wolves and calling a lot less. A lot of footwork and geting away from the other hunters can get you into some nice elk. Best of luck.

I have hunted the Joe area over the years, thick and steep, but the elk hunting is good.Get remote, there are some roadless areas
