The storm finally broke and i was able to take a few pictures. I didn't have time to stalk closer and the light was fading fast so some of the pictures didn't turn out too well. The bull with the really long points is very narrow and looks young

Nice Pics, I didnt see any of those bulls with busted antlers VERY NICE!!

Slamdunk: What do you mean that last bull is going to grow up and be somebody? He's already a solid 370 or better bull :) :) :)

Those are some great pics. Thanks for posting them up!

Cheers,
Pete

Sorry C3, I don't see 370 on that bull. Those thirds are only 5" long and the mass isn't there. I agree with Slam, a year or 2 down the road and last one will be a hog. He's not a very old bull either. 350ish.

Thanks for sharing your photos. I always enjoy seeing both elk and mule deer in the same picture (pics 4 and 5).

I may be able to draw this area for Archery this year. How would this area be for a newcomer that has never hunted the area. Would I need to make a scouting trip or could I get on elk during the season if I gave myself 2 weeks..

Since there are no seasons or other pics to look at, this is great to pass the time till draw results come out :)

I scored the 4th pic from the bottom and came up with 348, as a gross score? Lets see the range of answers that will come up :)

50"beams
18" G1's
16" G2's
14" 3rds
20" & 22" 4ths
12" 5ths
Spread 36"? impossible to guess?
mass 8", 7", 5", 5" times 2.

I'm seeing the last five pics as all being the same bull ???

I had him at 373 with 18, 18, 15, 22, 14, 52, 25 per side plus a 45" spread.

So maybe I exaggerated a bit and he's only 350, but still a shooter for me with a bow any day of the year :)

Cheers,
Pete

Hey Pete!

Glad to see you back in the arguments!;-)

I am going to agree with Pete since we never agree. Very nice bull! I think all bulls are great bulls! I will give him 345-350?

The last two pictures are a different bull then the ones above it. The one above it is very narrow with a little bit longer thirds.

C3 - no question he's a shooter and especially with a bow. I'll buy the 350" mark. You would be a little crazy to pass that bull up with a bow.

ktc - I'll stick with you bud, I know you get your yearly eye exam no that you've passed the golden age.

It's always an adventure!!!

Glad to see you're back from therapy there Ty :)

I thought for sure we'd seen the last of you after they needed to lock you up in the asylum on that "opportunity" thread. LOL!!! :) :) :)

I did good to stay out that, wouldn't you agree? You have any interest in coming down to the San Juan if I draw a Premium tag this year? The way I've been hunting lately I'll need all three seasons plus a couple more trys to get er done even on that unit!

Hope the new year is treating you well.

Cheers,
Pete

Pete,

Therapy was good. I needed it!

San Juan premium would be a sweet tag! The great thing is you will have time to make the most of your hunt. I am not sure I would be much help, but it sounds fun. Keep us posted on your draw luck. Good luck drawing!

LAST EDITED ON Jan-17-08 AT 11:34AM (MST)[p]I was mixing up two different bulls there for sure. Thanks for the clarification NeverStopHuntin! Put the spread and thirds of those two together and you'd be looking right there at that 370. LOL!

Cheers,
Pete

I was hoping you might be able to rub off some of your good luck on me :)

My 25th aniversary is right during the archery hunt this year and I figured if I draw that premium I can still give it a once in a life time go. To miss the first week of the archery hunt would be crazy if I put in for that with my 13 points.

There are some things that are more important than hunting, even for me after 22 years trying to draw this stupid tag :)

Most likely, unlike your honey, mine won't find hanging out in camp the most romantic way to spend her 25th. Hehehehehe! She loves me still for some reason, but not that much :)

Cheers,
Pete

Actually none of these pictures are of the gov. tag bull. I did get some pictures of him but they are in a different post.

These bulls are above mapleton and on some days they are laying basically in town in a farmers pasture. And no that is not the Gov. Tag bull. Thanks for the pics. And am i wrong on where they are at?

No all of these were in hobble creek. Most of them were across from the golf course. They move around but i have never seen any of them bellow the mouth of the canyon in any fields.
