Is there a site that I can go to check on a WY outfitter. I am considering a 2008 Elk hunt in WY and loking for a outfitter. I have never used one before in the State. I have a few that have been reccommmeded and want to see if there have been any complaints on them.

Throw their names out here and see what people say.
Or ask them for references. Succesful and not successful.

You can go to the state website outfitters.state.wy.us and see a list of who has licenses but that is about all you will find there. Folks on this website know a lot of the outfitters. The best outfitters will give you a complete list of all the folks who hunted with them recently not just the few that they know will give a glowing reference. Then just remember to consider weather the bad reports you may hear were a result of the outfitter or hunter having the problem.

WyoXtec,
On the home page of the WY Oufitters site they show numbers of hunters and number of successful hunts. Do the outfitters supply that information to the organization? I know lots of outfitters that calculate success as "shot opportunities" and opportunity can be wide in definition. Some include in that number if the client even sees the back end of a spike in the trees at 500 yards. Other quality outfitters are very specific about telling folks their actual kill rate vs. opportunity and are very honest about their calculations.

Check Huntinginfo.com

I think that was the web site, they have a outfitter review area

Good luck

Stay away from huntinfo. Some shady stuff happens with the reviews there. Go to Bowsite and check out that review. I have used both and I can tell you bowsite is above board. They even allow the outfitter to make a rebuttal.

Just click on the outfitter review section.

Yep and when a outfitter gets contacted to advertise or a hunt for this, they refuse. Some of his positive reports don't make the board and all his negatives do. Is this the kind of reviews you want to follow?

I am not a outfitter. Just one of many hunters who have experienced this.

This is why I like bowsites. You get both sides of the story.
