Lion in the back yard?

I live in a developed area, but I have an acre of pasture behind my house. It borders a river bottom that meanders to a canyon and forest service land about a mile away. This time of year I get a lot of deer in the pasture at night.

The other morning there was a spot with lots of deer hair--enough that the deer that lost it has to have some serious bald spots now. There was no blood to speak of.

I'm wondering if a lion tried unsuccessfully to take down a deer. There was no snow or dirt around where tracks would be visible.

Could anything else cause a deer to lose so much hair in a single spot?

I'm a little concerned because a lot of young children play back there.

Well according to a post on the heavenly forum up above awhile back, those golden eagles are just wreaking havoc on the mule deer population, swooping down and carrying them off in their claws.

So if you ask upstairs, they'll probably tell you it was eagles. That's what they tried to tell me awhile back.

But it could easily be a lion. They will venture down into town and I have video proof of that. When hungry they'll follow the deer wherever they go.

I wouldn't worry too much. Their preferred meal is the mule deer so the kids are probably alright. But watch out for eagles cuz if they are taking mule deer, taking a kid would be a piece of cake for them winged deer marauders!! ;-)

What state do you live in? I was just wonderin' if you might rope the lion and tie it to a tree so me and Kev could catch it with our mangy flea bags?

Don't say anything to Catmando about it, I think he's an undercover fish cop. ;-) -Dawg

I'm from Utah. It happened at night, so I doubt it was an eagle and I've never seen an owl around our neighborhood. Can a big bat take a deer?

Even a small bat can take a deer if you hit the deer just right !!!

Judast Stan,

With that post you just blew 12 years of undercover work!!! What the hell are you thinking?

We've been tracking a major drug cartel exporting out of Columbia and it's taken 12 years to track down the KingPin, and he's one of the hound guys on this site.

I've finally gotten their trust and just ready to put the squeeze on the Man... and you post that and blow my cover!!

Twelve years of suffering and misery posing as a damn hound guy, and feeding these worthless mutts... and now it's all shot to hell in one thread!!!

I suppose for paybacks I could tell them about your spandex mt. biking buddies, but I think everyone already knows...

Thanks alot buddy!!! -No longer undercover dawg.
