I would recommend a timberline rifle september hunt. Here is the link you need to find out how many preference points you need for each hunt: http://wildlife.state.co.us/huntrecap/

Don't expect much more help unless you do more leg work yourself than to request info like this on your first post. People do a ton of research for years to find good hunting spots. Most won't tell you on an open forum that unit XYZ is the best because that may mean they have more competion for applying to the unit they want to get drawn. In fact, you should expect some misdirection.

If you had your sights set on unit XYZ and had 7 points, would you post it on a public forum and increase your competition? Probably not.

However, there is a guy that frequents this forum that would give you some great help. His handle is Deerking and he has a business called Antlerquest and he can help you make the decision where to apply for and where exactly to hunt. He helped me get a 29" 8x7. Check his website out. http://members.aol.com/antlerquest1/myhomepage/business.html

Also, if you are a blacktail coastal hunter, there might be someone interested in a swap hunt. He takes you in Colorado and you take him in your area. Has worked for me.

Hi, I lived in Colorado most of my life and know where some big bucks are at. Unit 86 anywhere along the Continental Divide in that unit. This particular area I have been collecting preference points for and may have enough in 2005 is Unit 86 in the Cloverdale Basin area. Look on a National Forest map north of Westcliffe around the either Electic Peak or Eagle Peak, I can't remember which one. You will see Cloverdale Basin. We, my brother and I discovered some Monster Muley's there several years back bow-hunting. It's almost impossible to get one with a bow due to the natural terrain and wind conditions. Anyway give me a call and here is my e-mail also. John A. Sapeda, 1-256-353-7238, e-mail me at [email protected] or [email protected]. It takes 6 to 7 preferences points to draw for the High Country Mule Deer Season in September there. Several of the racks we saw were definitely record book. A secret well kept. Maybe we can get together and do a hunt there.

mighty nice of you John, but be careful you just might get a couple hundred emails soon.......LOL......

Best odds for success in my opinion is to contact Jeff Coldwell's AntlerQuest Consulting Service as others have stated. Great guy and his knowledge of all Colorado units and where to find the (bigger)bucks is second to none.
You will not regret it.
Best,
Jerry

Take it from someone who built a lot of points. Use them, don't accumulate them.
