Wasatch ML Hunt ???

Will it impact you? definatly there will be over a hundred less bulls on the unit and most of the big ones that are left are going to be a little smarter, but in my opinion the muzzeloader deer hunters will impact your hunt far greater then the LE rifle hunters ever will!

You can get away from the crouds. You're right, the Wasatch is a big unit. Most of the deer hunters are road hunters. I don't see too many muzz hunters or rifle hunters anyplace you can't get a truck or atv close. It's a great option if you're in shape. If walking is an issue, you will have a hard time harvesting a good bull on this unit with a primitive weapon. PM me if you want to learn a little more.

I think you can get away from the ML Deer Pressure, but I really think that this could be a frustrating hunt. I think the bigger bulls will be picked over and call shy.
That being said, several years ago on the Muzz hunt up by current creek I walked into a herd of elk and watched a solid 330 bull rake a small quakie and bugle til he was hoarse. We've had several bulls keep us up at night while camping up there on one of the ridges too.
Good luck. I would PM Jim (AKA awholelottabull) as he knows the area well and archery hunted it 2 years ago.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-08 AT 05:12PM (MST)[p]Thanks guys I appreciate all the info. Well I did the online app this evening and put in for the Wasatch elk ML and also did my bull moose application while I was at it. Boy would I like to draw that tag on day. Well with 8 points maybe in about 10 years.

Good luck tracker, if you draw you won't regret it. Great unit with a lot of good bulls. Just get in the best shape possible and hit it hard. Great time of year to chase elk! Let us know if you draw!

You have got some excellent advice. Good unit that produces some of the best bulls. I would not worry about the picked through part. I would guess Wasatch produces number wise as many good bulls as the other premium units. Percentage wise it does not?
If AWLB is offering up a chance for advice, I would jump on it!

Welcome to the world of chasing big bulls!!! Just for your information, everybody with 8 points or more last year as a NR drew the tag!!!! I hope you have some vacation time to burn. I don't know if you are going to be at the Western Hunt Expo next week but stop by if you are. You have several guys on this thread that have spent thousands of hours scouring that unit. Use your resources well and you should do fine.

my dad had this tag last year and passed on 33 six points and saw 55 branched antlered bulls out of those 33 six points 27 of those were under a hundred yards the other six around 250 yards this hunt was the best as far as being vocal and heavy into the rut my friend had the rifle tag not as vocal seen alot of 320 330 bulls looking for 350 didnt happen but very pleased with the hunt no regrets should be alot of good bulls this year good luck on the draw he had 10 points
