Well, I put in for the Books for ML elk as a NR with 10 points and my wife with 7 points. Who else put in? Do you think we have a chance? I think my odds are pretty good. My wife will have to get really lucky I'm guessing. Anyone hunted this hunt before? What did you see and take?

Well don't ask Slamdunk this question. LOL He and his son hunted it last year and the deer were on the move and they saw alot of smaller bucks but none of the bigger bucks. His boy ended up taking a decent 3 point. They were kept awake at night by all the buguling, rutting bull elk though. It was just crazy out there, he said. Elk everywhere at that time.

Thanks for the info TripleK....I know there are quite a few elk there.

Slamdunk, what type of bulls did you see there and how big of bulls were people were killing?

Thanks,

Fuzzy

LAST EDITED ON Feb-02-08 AT 03:50PM (MST)[p]With 10 points you might a chance of drawing. With seven points your wife will have to rely on luck. I buck hunted it in 2006 and helped a buddy in 2007. We saw some good bulls up high. I'm now applying for the elk hunt. With only one point going in, I'm in for a long wait, I'm afraid. Who know's maybe I'll get lucky!

Sorry i'm slow on this post, i haven't been on much lately.

Like 3K stated on my behalf, there were rutting bulls everywhere during the muzzy deer (i'm guessing the muzzy elk was going on as well?)

Most of the elk hunters we saw and talked to were hunting way up high, and there were elk there, but NOTHING like what we were seeing down low in the cedars and noone was around hunting them!!

There were so many big rutting bulls screaming and running around all night, we had to leave the area so we could sleep at night!

I don't dare put an exact number on the size of the bulls, we played around with them in the dark with a full moon and could just make out the frames on their racks, but i can assure you they were all mature bulls and bigger than what we were seeing up on top of the mountain by PR Springs and further west towards winter and steer ridge.

Let's just say it's too bad we didn't have an elk tag instead of that deer tag.!!

Thanks for the info slamdunk. If I draw, I may have to PM you for some details. I am looking forward to it. Hopefully this is the year. Anyone else have any info to keep me dreaming?

+1 with what Slamdunk stated...

Lots of bulls....with lots and lots of cows. I talked with a few guys who had mz elk tags (we were deer hunting) and they were getting into bulls, but had a hell of a time getting them away from the ladies.

I don't want to guess on score, but we saw some really nice bulls that I would be very happy to put on the wall.

Wish I could pull that tag every 2-3 years!
