My Remembrance Day Typical

Got a Big 'Un today. First day of my holidays too. :) I was hoping for a big trashy 200 inch non-typical but it's hard to pass on a Big Typical with deep forks when he's standing only 20 yards from ya. Must be all of DK's pics that have swayed me over to the dark side. LOL!! Besides, I should weed out all these inferior genetics. :):)
Was hunting with MM members MattB and Steveo32. So hopefully we'll have a couple more Big 'Uns down before the end of the week. I also have a muley doe draw that I need to fill as well. Then, I guess I'll have to start chasing those elusive whiteys until the end of the season. :):)
Took these pics off the video camera. Should have better quality on my 35mm when I get them developed.

Just put the tape on him. He grosses 178 and nets just over 170. If he didn't have the broken eyeguard he would have been a 180 buck.
Not a heck of a story on this one. Was a pretty easy hunt. Just a classic spot and stalk that actually worked in our favour. Glassed up a bigger buck with way better mass and way deeper forks chasing a doe just below where I shot the buck. We went across the river and up the slope. The buck was out of our sight for aprox 30 mins. When we finally saw him again, I had a hunch it was a different buck. All 3 of us got within 100 yards of him. I was hoping either Steve or Matt would be able to get on him but we didn't have any great shot opportunities. Too much brush in the way and very steep uphill shot. He was with a couple other little bucks and some does and they all feed over a rise, onto a bench above us and out of sight. The wind was nill, so we continued to stalk right up to the rise. We thought we'd peek over and the deer would be right there. No such luck though. When we got up onto the flat there were no deer in sight. We split up to push the bush and see if we could kick them up. Within 5 minutes I bumped up a doe right under my feet. Then he jumped up out of his bed about 15 yards in front of me. I whistled and he stopped at about the 20 yard mark. I quickly looked him over and saw his deep forks and decided I couldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. One shot with my 300 Win Mag and he dropped like a ton of bricks.
So the bigger one is still in there. Hopefully we'll find him chasing does tommorrow morning. Would really like to see Steve or Matt nail the big one. I'll be following them around being the film man for the rest of the weekend.:)

About time you shoot a clean typical! Great looking buck, he's a beaut. Now that you've come over to the enlightened side you'll never shoot another trashy buck! Boy that is purdy, congrats!

Congrats on a beautiful buck, Steve. I can see why you call him a cull with that weak brow time - LOL.

Nice buck BC and really thoughtful of you to take him fishing for the day.

Big buck in a boat! That's awesome man! Congratulations! It would be unreal to live in that type of country. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

bc,

congrats to you! i've been looking all year and have only found one buck that was bigger than the one you just shot...and i sent my dad back to that spot to shoot him, which he did. i don't blame you at all for popping a reeeaaallllly nice buck like that. are they rutting up north?

the big boys are rutting here and the hunting pressure is skyrocketing as usual because of it. i may have tag soup in the freezer this season if a can't locate another 180+ for myself in the next week or so.

again, congrats

BCBOY,

Awesome! Congrats! I always figured you knew how to hunt 'western' (use of the canoe)!

BCBoy, I enjoys your photos and all of the cool things you shoot. It seems like every year you kill a good buck and some other form or critter. The wolf was a awesome photo. Congrats and thanks for sharing the photos.

Great buck Steve! Congratulations!
Love the buck in the canoe pictures...Must get a little tipsy EH?:)
Another awesome Canada buck. Maybe I need to migrate north.LOL
Thanks for sharing with us.
Best,
Jerry

Way to go Steve. I bet we see some real BC pigs posted in the next couple weeks!

Thanks for all the nice comments!:):) I do like how the canoe pics turned out too. We hunt with canoes alot up here. That is the only way to access some of my hidey holes. I guess I'm just keeping up my Metis heritage. :) I did move him several times trying to postition him better in the canoe so that it wasn't so tippy. Ending up cutting him in half so that I could balance it out better. It's not the greatest crossing and the water is deep and cold. Didn't want to make a good day a bad one.
Hard too say how many big pigs are going to come out of BC in the next little while. We had a ton of snow 3 weeks ago and now it's melted pretty good. Mid elevation is even snow free in some places. Oct was pretty good to most of the diehard meat hunters so there are a lot of guys tagged out that won't be running into the big ones when the snow comes again.

Here's some better pics of the buck that were on Matt's camera.

Killed a small muley doe this morning. I passed up on some bigger does because I was looking for some good table fare. :)Looks like I'm going to head out on Monday to the Okanagan to chase whiteys with my dad. He was wanting to go earlier but I was already committed to hunting muleys instead. Now, that I'm tagged out for muleys here, I'll stoop to chasing them dinky dog deer. :):)

Great Job on a Great Buck! Congrats!

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

Seems like you wont have any trouble using those huge racks as an anchor for the canoe.

Your story had more flavor than most hunts... Thanks for sharing it with your pics.

Good Luck on the Doe.

Congrats BC!
Check out the neck on that dude?
How big is it? They must be rutting like crazy!
Pretty hard to let one like that go for anybody!!

A bad day hunting is better than a Good Day at Work!!

Fantastic!!! What a beautiful buck! You always work so hard, nice to see it pay off for you!

Great pics too!

Steve,

Never thought I'd see the day when there wasn't some nasty trash not hanging from one of your muleys. Awesome buck, Congrats to you and hope the rest of your MM buds take some big ems. Great photos too...

Ed

That's one heck of an impressive deer. There's something about those wide deep forked boxy looking bucks like that one. Congradulations on a great deer and good luck with the WT's.

Just got the news from Steve that Matt hammered a much bigger buck this afternoon. He slipped with his knife while field dressing and cut his leg really bad. Had to be rushed to the hospital. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
