first time i ever followed hounds was with an ol' guy from the gila valley named Ted Ferguson. some years earlier he had taken his hounds to africa and hunted leopards and lions. had some wild stories about it. i think it was probably in the late 40's or in the 50's when he went over there. seems like some real rich dude payed for the trip. if you ever get a chance, read dale lee's book, i think it's called "the life of the greatest guide". dale was real full of hisself, but he knew hounds, no doubt. it has some pretty good storied of hunting jaquars in belize and barbados and other places. there was guy named hunter wells from prescott that wrote a book that had a bunch of jaguar stories in it. he went to south america for several years with his hounds. it never says the guys name that he went with, but i think it was curtis proct, from Young, Az. another damn good houndman. hunter got killed in a plane wreck in alaska. from what i can tell, jaguars can offer just as much as leopards or lions either one. damn, now i'm gettin' plum nostalgic. Clel Lee, Zeke Pennington, Rollin Rice, Blue Rice, Shorty Line, wish i coulda met Ben Lilly.............

I just got a magazine called Professional Hunter. (why the sent it to me I don't know) anyhow a houndsman from Utah wrote an article about running hounds in Africa. The guys name is Wade Lemon, I think I recall the Utah crowd on this site mention his name here before. Pretty cool stuff. They brought over a pack of 5 dogs and have caught over 50 leopards so far. Hard to believe that none of the dogs have been killed of crippled up yet. Amazing. Hey Waycool, one of the dogs they have over there looks just like your whitey dog.

Hey AF don't beleive everything you read my friend.I know Wade personally and he is a good friend. I've seen alot of those pictures of them chasing leopards and heard lots of Wades stories.Bottom line is Wade pays the price when he hunts those things and the price is lots of good dogs and there not just dogs, there the type of dogs most houndsmen will never own in a life time in my opinion. But hey I'm with ya that would get the old heart pumping.I am headed to Old Mexico tonight to go hunt some lions who knows we might luck on to a big spotted cat.good hunting guys.

Hey Stan,

Since you brought up the subject of them Mex Jags.... If your interested in actually trying to catch one or several for that matter.. Wildlife Science dept here has tried a couple times with various houndsman to catch one in old Mx with no success... They are doing a bunch of research on them etc...

Anyway if your interested I'll have them throw your hat in the bin .. Not sure how well it pays but I'm sure they'll cover your expenses etc...
