Hunting opening day in unit 45 Idaho.
Corey (buglelk) found this buck a week before the season opener in an isolated canyon and got some video.
We decided to go in opening day and see if we could find him.
He was right back in the same canyon.
Thanks to Corey and Chad (bulldown) for their help on the hunt. Could not have done it without them.
The first picture was taken the week before by Corey on his scouting trip of the same buck.

That buck looks bigger dead than alive! Great photos and great buck to boot! Congrats go out to you and those who helped get that big old boy.

I thought the same thing wilecoyote. He looked nice in the video and pics but once I saw him in person I really got a better feel for how big he was. We were thinking mid 180's from the pics and he actually ended up scoring 192 gross.

He looks so majestic in the video still. Great looking buck and way to scout em and go back after em! Congratulations to the crew!

Thanks everybody for taking a look and for your comments.

I am not sure what the net score was we didn't calculate it.
My guess would be 184/185. I agree with the people that say you can't subtract bone off a deers head so only care about the gross scores.

Mike,

Congrats again on a great buck! Here are a few more pictures of him alive from the weekend before...he definitely grew by 3-4 inches over those 5 days...

Congratulations on such a fine Deer! It's great to have such good friends that are there for you. I would imagine you're going to mount this guy but you might have a problem explaining to the wife just why you are taking a chain saw to your ceiling or adding a room on your home! HA HA This one may be a little hard to top next year. Congratulations again and enjoy!

hrmm... something fishy about this story. How can you shoot 2 deer in the same season? Its not exactly clear who shot the buck up top but this guy in this lower picture is the same dude that is in the majority of the pictures of the big buck.

How lucky to take 2 mature bucks in the same year. I don't even get to seem buck this big.

Anyone else think something screwy's going on?

Definitely something screwy going on here...

We need an explanation on this behavior Mike. I mean, come on, why didn't you buy an extra non-resident tag and shoot 3 bucks this fall? And don't give us the "vacation time" excuse either...

Dustin, Idaho has a "supertag" lottery which allows hunters to hunt any open controlled hunt in the state. This tag is in addition to a general tag. On top of that, a hunter can also purchase left-over non-resident tags, so shooting more than one deer or elk in Idaho is possible. Mike was lucky enough to draw one of the supertags this year, in addition to killing a nice buck with his general tag.

he prob drew the 45 tag and bought a non-res left over or somthing like that
