Idaho Hunting Applications

This will be the first time that I have tried to apply for Idaho. I just looked on their website and it doesn't appear that the 2008 regs are even posted. Anyone out there know when you usually apply? When do they usually post results? Any suggestions that might help a newby not make mistakes? Any info will be greatly appreciated!!

I was wondering the same thing! I want to put in for Moose this year as a NR. I was told of a hunny hole of a unit that not many people put in for! And no.....I am not telling anyone else!

Moose, sheep and goat app's are due the month prior to elk, deer, etc.

Look at the 2007 reg's, they will be the same dates and for the most part the same hunts as they will be in '08.

Idaho moose, sheep, and goat (MSG) applications are usually in April. Idaho deer, elk, and antelope applications are usually in May. You will need to by $128.50 hunting license to apply.

Idaho MSG is painful because you have to front all tag fees to apply.

Idaho DEA is nice in that once you buy $128.50 hunting license you only pay ~$7.50 application fees. If you draw more DEA tags than you want, you do not have to buy the tag (which is also kind of nice). I don't mind buying the hunting license because I usually use it to hunt birds and at least some kind of OTC big game.

like gundog said, if you draw conflicting hunts, you don't have to purchase the tag, I believe you have till July 31 to buy it.

Their Elk, Deer, Ant apps have to be in by early June, they moved it back about 2 years ago, it was May 31 for years.

Idaho had good draw odds because 1) you can NOT apply for Elk, Deer, Antelope if you applied for sheep, moose or goat. 2) You have to buy a hunting license approx $130, when applying and NO preference/bonus points.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Cali,
I would have to disagree with the good draw odds. The hunts I want are both less than a 10% chance of drawing.
I bet the best Deer and Elk odds for the average units is around 15% odds. That does not seem that good.

sheep, moose and goats is April 29, deer elk and antalope is may 30.

Just a correction too the NR hunting license is now 141.50 not 128.50.

also on NR tags there is no gurantee of 10% it is just a cap at 10% so no more the 10% can draw but that doesnt me there are any guarenteed NR tags!

While 10% draw odds might not seem good to some, incomparison these can be pretty decent odds. And remember, inmost of Idaho, you can buy deer and elk tags over the counter.
