Who Went????

Curious who attended the RMEF convention this past week. I went Fri. It was worth my time yet I felt it was smaller than in the past.

I noticed that for the second year in a row, Colorado F&G was NOT there. Every other western state was though. Wonder why they haven't shown up since they instituted the 80/20 split???

Just got back.
WEATHER SUCKED!
Just like on cue Mother Nature made life tough on me exactly like last year.
Show was very marginal to say the least.
Probably my last elk camp unless it improves, fewer displays, fewer outfitters, fewer everything.
Mossback, Mclendons, & WMIR had the usual pigs on display, but everything else seemed like a rerun.
I'm usually not a very negative person, I just thought this years show was sub-par.

Did I say the weather sucked???

Definitely seemed smaller this year. The elk calling contest only had 60% of the contestants compared to past years also...

You'll be heading to Ft Worth Texas in 09 and Salt Lake in 2010.

I have attended the last four in Reno, 2005 it was in Portland I think. It really has shrunk as far vendors and on Sunday, there weren't many folks at all.

sounds like Corey and his dad got robbed!! Im sure those other guys were good but I dont believe they could hold a candle to Corey and Rocky! IMO!!

Thanks Brian!

Bryce, the contest was good. My 5 year old son, Isaac, took 2nd in the voice division, and my Dad and I got 4th and 5th, respectively, in the Professional Division. Joel Turner took 1st, Al Morris (2nd), JR Keller (3rd), and Matt Brimmer (6th). As always, there was some great competition and I was glad to share the stage with those other guys!

HunterHarry's pictures show why I decided to stay home. No way was I going to endure that drive just to go to the show for a day.

I went on Sat. Got up there Friday before the storm and hung out with the wife and kid. Cabelas was cool and my son was in heaven. Said he really liked it there! That's my boy!

The show was ok. Sorry to hear it's going to FS/Salt Lake, but then in 2011 it will be in Sacramento and only an hour away from me. That'll be nice, but I don't exepect it to be too good a show in Sacramento.

Paid dearly for going though. Took us 8 hours to do a normal three hour drive on Sunday.

Wonder where they will hold it in Sacramento, maybe Cal-Expo buildings. If so, I could go to that one in two hours drive.

Can you expand on this? I would be interested as to how they were robbed.

We went for the 1st time. We mostly went to enter the elk calling contest.I thought that the 4 of us represented pretty well also. My son Schafer 5 yrs old won the pee wee division and my daughter Tawny took 3rd in the pee wee division. My wife Deb took 2nd in the Womens Division, and I ended up 4th after a calloff in the finals. We all had a good time and ended up getting to see some relatives we hardly get to see.The whole weekend seemed to just fly by.We also met some really cool people. Corey, I really wanted to spend a little time getting to know you and your family.I feel as if I already know you as I have heard such good things from others. Sunday we ended up spending time with our relatives and didn't get to go to elk camp at all that day.I wish I had gotten video of Isaac and Schafer bugling back and forth at each other on friday. That is what it is all about two kids bugling back and forth at each other just having fun. Maybe next time we can talk about ELK hunting or something. Catch ya later Troy

I guess no comment means sour grapes!!!

TheHunt,

Brian is a personal friend of mine and meant no malice towards the other callers. Like most of us, we like to see our friends do well, and Brian was just expressing his disappointment that a couple of his friends didn't win the contest. Believe me, the guys who won were GREAT callers, and for the most part have been in the top 5 in the past.

Shoot me an e-mail if you'd like, [email protected].

Thanks,
Corey

WOW!! Really didnt mean to make any one mad. Havnt been on here in a few days so sorry for the delayed response! Like Cory Said, I just want him to do well, thats all. No disrespect toward anyone here or in the competition,,, but it my opinion,, There is no one that sounds better then Cory. Plus he is an elk killin machine. Its just my opinion so dont take it personal.
Brian

I understand how someone would be disappointed. The comment seamed to disrespect the other callers and the entire process. Specifically the winners?

I was just curious as if the complaint was legit or not.

Thank you for putting his comment to bed.

I don't need Cory to put my comment to bed?? I stand by what i said. Cory is the best in the world. and like i said,, that is my opinion. like when your fav football team is losing, its usually the fault of the ref,,,,,, right,,,(toung in cheek). If you still want to discuss this please email me.

This is will be my last response to this thread... Nothing like beating a dead horse!

You post is as follows:

sounds like Corey and his dad got robbed!! Im sure those other guys were good but I dont believe they could hold a candle to Corey and Rocky! IMO!!
Brian

What you really intended:

The elk calling competition was really enjoyable to watch and listen even though Corey and his Dad did not win. IMO none of the calling contestants could hold a candle to Corey or his father.

Good enough for me. I'll be carefull how I word thing next time. Lets just forget it and talk about how we're going to kill our next big bull! Thats funner anyway! sorry Cory! Stop by and buy you soda pop.
