Hey Dawg, this story took place a few miles southwest of where we watched the Gray Fox put on the bear clinic.

All in a days work for ol' Hank. I'll bet his "church bells" were sucked up pretty tight for a while that day. Makes you wonder what went through his mind about the time the bear hit the end of the rope.

And these modern day drugstore dudes think they're cowboys.

Sonoran Grizzlies must have been the meanest damn animal that ever walked. there's a bunch of stories about the old timers and their run in's with them. one ol' guy, i think he was a Hamblin, got crossways with one up on Escudilla. he finally killed it but had to hold his scalp on with his hand while walking back to alpine, so it wouldn't fall in front of his eyes. my grandad and his brother killed several when they were younger. they had a couple real wild stories about them. my grandad roped an antelope once and his comment was, " I tried for years to rope one and when i finally did, all I wanted to do was get loose". seems it was so fast that it ran all around his horse and it fell. this story sorta reminds me of that. Ed, there was an old guy from RV, i think his name was Milo Wiltbank, that had a book he wrote that had some Griz stories in it. it's worth reading if you can find it. you ever see Fred Fritz sr.'s grave down on the blue? he got mauled by a griz and died some years later from the infection that he could never get rid of. he finally killed it with a knife i think. Ben Lilly had some real wild times with them too. good story. mean animals.

Those gritty old timers must have been always having those Grizz encounters cuz they had dogs like mine...

Just stood back and booger barked at 10 yards so the guys figured they had to rope 'em and tie 'em to a tree.

That's about the only way my dogs can catch one... maybe they just had blueticks like me!! ;-)

Grizz? No thanks, I'll pass...

Being a drugstore cowboy works just fine for me. Besides, I like my scalp just where it sits and my bones unbroken.

I prefer to think of myself as a Rhinestone cowboy actually.
