Howdy All,

I've lived in Colorado for 30+ years(I'm 45)and have never hunted. I suppoose some might count whacking muskrats with a .22 when I was a boy.
Anyway - I am going to try to bag an Elk durung third season in unit 35 or 36. Any thoughts or experience with the area? I don't care at all about getting a trophy, just want to get some meat in the freezer and enjoy the experience. Am I more likely to have sucess going after cows as opposed to trying to get a Bull?

Thanks,

Michael

Well welcome to the hunting world. I know that you will enjoy the experience and if you go into it with a great attitude and work hard, you will come away successful. I have lived in Colorado for 22 year and have bowhunted for elk the last 15 years and have managed to take 8 elk with my bow, both cows and bulls. I have never hunted either one of those units, but do some homework, check out the stats for those areas and then go for it. I would think that getting a cow would be easier than a bull, but the minute I say that, a big bull will walk out and all you will have is a cow tag, but then you will have a cow tag and see nothing but bulls, its hunting!!!! and its a blast. If you would like some information on where to go if you are open to other areas, go to my website at www.colorado-adventures.com and send me an email or give me a call and I would be more than happy to get you started in the right direction. Just being up there in the high country can do something to a person, nothing but good things though. Good hunting.
