Just wanting to know if any of you use a spotting scope for archery elk. Do you really need one? Or do most of you just use a good pair of binoculars. Just would like to know if it would be a good investment. I have a pair of leica 8x42 binoculars that I use. Thanks

Spotting scopes are always good to have in your arsenal on any hunt. They can help you cut distance and strategically hunt elk rather than trouncing around hoping to bump into a herd. Get on a high point and find, keep tabs on and patern bulls from a distance. Helping you size them up while not bumping the herd.

I recomend a Vortex Skyline Ed from the roads, wheelers or horses and a Vortex Nomad for hiking/packing in.

Good luck.

Skyline ED I currently have the Vortex Summit CBX that works great and is rock solid!

I have a Vortex High Country Tripod on order for the Nomad. Love the design and how light weight it is.

I also have a Vortex Ridgeview on order for the Skyline ED to make it more portable. I will keep you posted on both.

I have a nikon ed50 works great and easy to pack. Wouldn't go without it in my pack.

Thanks for your replys. Deer4me do you have the ED III 50? Here that it is newest scope. How do they compare to the swaros or leicas? Thanks

I think it depends on where you're hunting. I rearely lug a spotting scope along when elk hunting. Its usually pretty easy to tell if its a big bull or not, and the areas I hunt I'm usually not glassing much farther than a mile or 2 at most. I'm also not a trophy hunter and don't care if its a 280 or a 400 class bull its big enough to shoot reguardless.

Deer on the other hand... I usually always pack one.
