I drew area 7 in wyoming for non resident elk. i have heard it is an excellent area. i am realizing i don't have the time to do the proper scouting, etc. on my own so I am looking for a solid outfitter. Any recommendations? I am thinking possibly of archery, but still not sure so could do rifle or both.

Try Elk Mountain outfitters. The Wakkuri's have a great reputation for good hunts and big bulls. GOOD LUCK. C.C.

Thanks. Jim Freeburn is all booked up -- only takes 5 per year. I will try Brian Artery but have already talked to Dan Artery (seemed reasonable) -- are they brothers? any thoughts on Dan?

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-08 AT 11:30AM (MST)[p]I have hunted with Brian Artery & Clarke Noble (Hunton Creek Outfitters) before Brian is a great guy and runs a great outfit.

Dan Artery is Brians Uncle and he runs his own outfit Dan is a excellent guide and outfitter. I would contact them both.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-08 AT 06:56PM (MST)[p]Elk Mountain Outfitters or Hunton Creek. Both places give a great chance at killing great bulls. I personaly would go with Elk Mountain Outfitters. If Jim wasn't full he would of been my first choice. Jim is a great guy who manages for great bulls and even better deer.

One other one I know of is Dave Gamblin of Cow Creek Outfitters. Don't have personal experience but my buddy talked with him last year and the better dates were booked. The Jan 08 issue of the Huntin Fool magazine had a couple hunter successes with him and both were bow hunters. We went last year as saw one big bruser so it can be a good area. Good luck. We struck out this year.

I second the vote for Jim Freeburn but unfortunately he is booked full which says something about his operation.

Check out Wagonhound.com. Great ranch with tons of land if they have opening and you can foot the bill.

GO POKES!

any recommendations for a private ranch with trepass fee access that may be a good bet.
