colorado unit 11 elk?

does anybody know anything about this unit for elk in the 1st season rifle? thinking about applying my son for it?

You'd be half crazy to hunt 11 during 1st season. There are some resident elk in the are around price creek but 80 percent of the area is private with big ranches like the buffalo horn, the keystone, the lousiana purchase, and the cook ranch just to name a few. Your best off putting in for a 4th season either sex tag when the migration occurs and the elk come through the maybell area where the public is. I warn you though the area sees alot of hunters and alot of pressure and alot of people just go out there and road hunt and shoot into the elk herds off the road and stupid stuff like that. Thats my two cents.

However, for the first rifle season, the unit 11 tag is also good for units 12, 13, 23, 24, 25, 26, 33, 34, 131, 211, and 231 !

Good point but unit 11 definetly wouldn't be my choice for a 1st season hunt.

so what would your 1st choice be in colorado for the 1st rifle elk only season for a 12year old with no points?

Well theres tons of units out there that you can draw first rifle with no points but unit 11 wouldn't be one of them. Unit 12 can be very up on Black Mountain it really just comes down to doing your homework and doing the scouting and finding a place you feel confident in.

well lets see ive got 3 weeks before I have to apply him for somewhere and my vacation time isnt available until after may 1st so that doesnt give me much time to scout or get confident in anything, hence, why Im on here asking for advice and help

THANKS guys, we have been hunting a unit way down in so. colo. for about 8 years and know that unit pretty well but now it takes at least 1 point to draw 1st season so my son wont get it so we are looking at his best chance somewhere else. thanks for the ideas and info
