Best Elk Calls

What is the brand/model of the calls that brings you the best results. Best cow call, plunger like Primos Hoochie Mama, or a diaphram type. Any thoughts on a good bugle and how hard is it to get decent. I have played with a Quaker diaphram cow call, but not in the field.

Ed, I'm pretty partial to a few good elk calls, the best ones are the ones that work for you the best! I like Rockies calls as a whole. I also like Carltons Super Blue in double reed for most bull sounds. My favorites are The Scream N Tormentor & Mini Master Single Dome, with these 2 I make 90% of all elk sounds. The Super Blue is used for the other 10%. I personally like & use the Monarch Bugle at this time, it's got real good sound qualities! It's best used with the mouth reeds I mentioned instead of using the built in external reeded bugles.

I'm not a fan of squeeze me calls as a whole, they're to easy to be ones "goto" call & they're very repetitious & easily recognizable by other hunters & educated elk! They have their place when used as another addition in making various herd talk but not one for walking around & squeezing it without thinking!

For all around cow sounds, the ?Mellow Yellow? diaphragm is hard to beat
The Bugles are very versatile, and can be used with or without a diaphragm.

I like the primos hyper lip it is my favorite cow call, also good to have a few mouth diaphram calls as well, I also use the terminator elk bugle by primos, shouldn't take to long to get good, just practice around the house Cindy will love it.

Thanks for the tips!

I will grab a few of the suggested calls and start practicing. Never know when I might hit the out-of-state lottery and draw an archery tag.

Cindy is used to my ways of "communicating". I already p*ss her off when I make her weiner dog cry when I cow call, LOL!
