Does anyone know who makes the estrus call mentioned in the Extreme Bulls 5 video? I thought they were Primos guys, but Primos doesn't have that call.

I made my own years ago. Modified a sleazy cow call. Real high pitch, real loud.
They talk about their call in Vol 4. Not sure if they mentioned who made the one they used in that dvd.

The "Estrus Scream" is a Sound made by cows when in estrus or very near it. That's the key there that it's a sound. It can be made by most Estrus Whine type external reeded calls on the market today. It's a "buzz" type sound that is achieved with the lower pitchy note & held for a full second. It can also be imitated by a mouth reed, the best one is generally a double reeded call. You must hold it so the latex rests darned near to the front of your teeth. With practice the needed sound is very possible!
Too, it's a timing sound, not to be used just any ole time. Timing is everything with this sound as are most elk sounds when used correctly!

The guy that makes that call is Steve Chappell. He also has a elk calling DVD that can teach you how to make the "estrus scream".

DH is right. Steve Chappell has an estrus screaming cow call that he makes by using a mouth diaphram. I heard him talk about it in an elk seminar last year.
There is also awesome footage of a cow making the estrus scream on the new Extreme Bulls 5 video. It has incredible audio so you can learn what to sound like from a real cow. Chappell also has an instructional CD out that teaches how he makes the call with a diaphram.

Have heard Steve & Jay talk about this quite often. This sound is best made with the Primos Imperial or Hyper Plate diaphram. The colors of the diaphram are red and blue. These allow you make the sound more authentic than other calls. Steve shows a cow making this sound as well as using the sound in a call sequence in EXTREME BULLS 5. Its works very well and should not be over used. He also goes into great detail on the CD as stated above. Good luck to everyone in the draw. CDN
