Sportsman San Juan Elk Tag

You got it, I'm that lucky guy who drew the any weapon tag at the expo. surprised me too. Ill be honest, I know nothing of the unit. Is there anyone out there who has hunted it before and could get me to a good start?

Congrats on a great tag . You must be one very lucky person . Wish I could help with some information , but I have only hunted deer down there about ten years ago. Good luck

If I were ever lucky enough to draw that tag, I would use these guys: http://www.blacktimberoutfitters.net/

They really know the area and would do a good job for you. Of course, you could do well on a DIY hunt, but would require some scouting time.

Congrats on the tag you lucky dog!!! I can only dream of hunting the San Juan.

I know a couple guys that have bowhunted the San Juan unit recently that might be helpful to you. Between my Dad, Chad, and I we can probably get you hooked up with some of them. Send me an email at [email protected] and I will send you their names and email addresses.

If we don't draw any conflicting tags this year, you may be able to "twist our arm" to come help you call and pack out your bull if needed

So Cory, can I get in line for that help? 14pts and hoping to bowhunt the San Juan this year myself..... You'll all hear the scream if the tag shows up...I'll sound like a spike who thinks he's king of the mountain. Great story BB. I'm inspired to make a daily journal and take lots of pictures if..... What would be cool is to work it out to post updates and pics during the hunt. I'm kind of new to this site so maybe this has been done. Dang...now I've got to go search old posts..

that is a great tag. I know the unit very well, we have killed many bulls and a lot of bear from there. I will be down there End of May and in July and August. We usually make 4 or 5 trips down before the hunts start. We will be bear hunting but you are welcome to come any time I go down.
If you want a guide I would talk to Lyle Bayless or Todd and Travis Black they all do a great job. And very good people to hunt with.

That would be awesome! I'm interested in info as to accessing the unit, best places to start scouting, etc. Tell me about the bulls you were seeing and the ones that you took.
