elk video accuracy

I recently got cable TV and have watched 7 or 8 of the hunting shows that show elk hunts. In every case seemed to me that these bulls were wandering around in what I call pretty open areas. Even the woods looked pretty open. I've never been elk hunting before, or hunted out of my home state for that matter, but everything I've ever been led to believe has always indicated that these elk hung out in areas that had very thick woods and good hiding places. Are these shows making it look deceptively easy? That's my guess, but I know you guys can shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

They came from the plains.
They are where you find them. This is my bull from last year in NM. Not too thick down there.

It helps to hunt private ranches where they aren't pressured. Public land is a whole different ball game. Deep, dense, steep, thick, you name it. Private land will have elk just out sunning themselves because they are left alone until paying customers show up. I've hunted plenty private ranches and it is way easier to fill a tag. Public lands are more fun but more work.

YES the Video Industry make elk hunting look easy... but if you are hunting DIY it is alot of work but well worth it!

Thanks for the input. I guess I'm one of those masochists, because I'd rather hunt hard and maybe go home empty and come back another day, or season, than have an easy hunt.

I hunt Colorado public lands and we take decent bulls and cows every year in wide open sage and oak brush covered country.I do however have to thank all of the people who have the opinion that all elk can only be found in dense cover, because they are the ones that push all the elk to our spot.

Thank you!
