I want to know what you guys think the best muley state is . I want to know best state as in big bucks produced not the population. I really dont know what order I would put the mule deer states in , but the provinces have big nontypicals. I would say utah , and colarado have big typs . Let me know what you guys think if you want put them in order. You can.

Huntercameron,

I wouldn't be so quick to rule out Canada in your survey. Some of the heaviest bucks I have seen in the last few years have come out of there...............rf

From what I remember in an article I read once it goes for the last 30 years...(this is just the states, sorry don't know how the provinces tie in...)
Wyoming
Utah
Nevada
Arizona/Montana tied
New Mexico

I just made a list out of the 1999 B&C 11th edition Book.
For Mule Deer "Typical" Top #1 thru #34
1. Colo 11
2. Idado 7
3. Utah & Wyo. 5
4. AZ & NM 3
5. Oregon 1
6. Kansas 1

For Mule Deer "Non-Typ" Top #1 thru #34
1. Colo 9
2. Idaho 5
3. Utah 4
4. AZ,CA,NV,OR tied at 3 each
5. NM 2
6. WY,AB&BC(Canada) 1 each

The new 25th B&C Records Book is out so it could change I'm sure.

Kilo You have some really good observation about the typical Mule deer, But I would love to know where the New #1 Mule Deer ever taken with a bow came out of in 2004? ;)

Cass,
If you go back to my post you will see that the last paragraph stated that there would be some changes with the new 25th Records book that is out now.
And YES, I am aware of the big Buck taken in NV this year but it won't be LISTED till the next awards by B&C.

Does that satisfy your statement???

Brian

LAST EDITED ON Nov-29-04 AT 11:59AM (MST)[p]I would agree with wyoming being number one. But Arizona could unseat wyoming in the future. Nevada is the sleeper but with the USO things going on all of these states are gonna get real interesting in the near future

A'common everyone knows Oregon has the biggest mule deer.;-)

I would have to say regardless of record books, each state has an areas where the big ones roam. Every state has a trophy unit!!!!

Alive and well
Just hoping he makes it through this years horrible winter in ely :(

judging from pics this year I would say that Colorado pulled out some pigs. In Wy that wowmen with the non-typical or the guy who shot it is a nice buck too.

If I say Utah, will everyone leave Washington and Idaho alone to go hunt there???

Ariz. is producing the biggest bucks now. This year 295 B&C nontypical. Wyoming is next but is declining. Utah and Nevada are also good. Colo. used to be #1 by a mile and is coming back with better management. Just my perspective.

Wyoming has been hit by severe drought for the last 6-7 years.

There are isolated areas that seem to have been protected, but the majority of the state is hurting.

Pretty simple...If you don't grow the feed you don't grow the bone.

sorry, canada don't count... hehe.

Seems like lots of big ones from Colorado this year.

Utah no doubt grows some hogs havent seen any records from Canada this year . If there is let me know

British Columbia !!!

You all should see the bucks that got shot this year ... simply tossed in the shed as another deer.
