Could anyone send me a pm or post some info on this unit and hunt? I am not asking for honey holes just for places to start. My son drew this bull tag and it is a new unit for us.
Thanks for any advice.

PM sent.

Send me an email and I'll be glad to help you out. I spent some time scouting there last fall. We hunted on the south side of the highway, but actually saw a lot more elk while scouting on the north side. Lots of elk, and pretty easy hunting. It is thick country, though. Lots of brush.

I got first season so any information That I can pass to you after that I sure will, If your coming down early you're more then welcome to tag along with us on the hunt, That will still be going on. Hope to see alot of elk. LOL

The AZ G&F web page will give you several places you can start your scouting.

CAelknuts.......how did you do in 22 south?? I have that tag this year & had heard rumors of a pretty big bull that made it through the hunts last yr. I agree, more elk north of the highway.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-31-08 AT 09:01PM (MST)[p]We were hunting on the muzzleloader hunt in 22 south, so it was a different hunt than you guys have. We saw a couple very outstanding bulls. One was a 6x5, only because he'd broken the fifth on his right side. Even with the broken tine, which was about 15" long on the left antler, he would have scored right up around 350 or a bit more. There were several people trying to get that bull. We found him the evening before the season, and when my buddy decided he wouldn't want to shoot it, I had some fun with it and called him in to about 45 yards. Then, he decided that he'd really like to kill him afterall, and if I'd have known that, I wouldn't have messed with him.

The second morning, we called in a bull that would have been at least high 340s, probably bigger and I figured that we'd kill him the next day, but my buddy shot a bull that evening so we never got to find out. There were rumors of a 360 class bull that nobody could find once the season opened, and he was last seen in some really nasty, big deep canyon country. Perhaps that's the bull you heard about. According to the Game Warden and some other people we talked to, it sounded like he was almost certainly the biggest bull anyone knew of last fall in 22 south.

what's your dates in Nov. and are you talking about Mazatzal wilderness area. I sure would like to know what you see and shot back in there. My hunt is the late Nov early Dec Hunt, any information would be appreciated. Good Luck.
