So I found out last night that we pulled 3 early season rifle bull tags in unit 10 (myself not included...my dad, an uncle, and a friend) and I plan on spending the next 6 months preparing with them. Well, we have never hunted unit 10, so I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to give us some insight on where to start.

An early rifle bull elk hunt in unit 10...WOW! It really can be as simple as this: get a map, find a water source, be there early and late, listen for a bugle, go kill the bull elk. Seriously.

Good luck, and take lots of pics so you can post them here for us to ooh and awe over.

Early bull, rifle unit 10 ?
To start preparing you need to clear off a spot above the fireplace to put the mount, and select a taxidermist.
One of the best trophy elk tags in the country.
Congratulations to your dad, uncle and friend.

It's not gonna be easy as that, 7 days 3 guys all looking for trophy bulls together, it's gonna be tough for some one. the best way to do that is to separate all of them with plenty of freinds. i've hunted that unit for 14 years. if their all looking for the monster bull, it takes a little more time than an average of 2.3 days a peice. or someone will have to settle for a little one.

homework homework scouting scouting. trust me

i drew the unit 10 archery bull tag this year gonna be an awesome hunt again.

this year will be better the last 4 years. with all the snow up there this year, it's gonna be awesome

hers some pics of some of the unit 10 bulls in the past

1 more thing we learned .300 win mag or up, we've used 7 mags before and they just dont leave a blood trail or drop them in their tracks like the big guns, my 13 year old had the early rifle bull in unit 10, 2.5 years ago and shot the 360" bull, beautiful shot with 160 gr partition @ 191 yards, and it never dropped a bit of blood, luckily we had a professional tracker.
