How's This For a Kids First Buck?

My 15 year old son Derek has hunted with me for three years now. He hasn't shot at a buck until this year. We just thoought he should wait until he really felt comfortable with his gun first. He has killed several does prior to this, but "buck fever" wasn't a player. We spotted this buck at about 3:00 pm and Derek put a .243 shell in his heart and lungs at about 3:45.

If he doesn't qualify as a monster by that photo, here is a look at his body:

He is a monster in my book probally your sons too. Great photos and great dadmanship, I still got a few years for my two little boys. Great job!!

Congratulations to both of you! What a nice first Buck! He'll have his work cut out for him next year to top that one! I would think Dad would be a little proud with a son like that! It appears that he had a great instructor as well. Congratulations again and enjoy.

Very nice deer! I can still remember my first one like it was yesterday ( 25yrs ). Would have to shoot 25 of my first one to equal his. Man I'm getting up there. Tell your son kudos

cant wait to take my kids. I took my wife this year and she shot a 25" 4x4 five minutes into the hunt, go figure.

Sounds like a great father/son team. Congrats to your son Derek and his nice first Buck. Any idea how much the Buck weighed after field dressing?? Which state were you hunting in?

He weighed 225# field dressed. It was fun loading him in the truck. We got him in south eastern Montana.
