It took 11 pts and I'm needless to say a little bit excited. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I've spoken with quite a few folks and am getting a wide variety of recommendations as to where to focus my hunt. Local archery shop (his wife took 357 bull @10 years ago in Unit 1 recommends south end of unit along the reservation border. Another local in Az likes north end near Wishbone Mtn, still another man I spoke with tells me I need to hunt the Escudilla area. My head is spinning,as that pretty much covers the majority of the unit.I am also courious about Unit 2 which partially is also available to hunt with this tag. I live in NM and have ventured into Unit 1 on vacations but would be grateful for some current advise as to where to begin my scouting trips this summer. Thanks in advance for the help... I'm willing to help anyone if they draw the Gila in NM in exchange.

The reason you are getting so many areas because there are bulls everywhere in unit 1. I would concentrate my time around reservation lake area. It is right on the border of the reservation up by big lake. Do your scouting and you can kill a great bull.

Why not look at all the areas? It sounds like you've already been given good advice, take advantage of it.

It's Bush's fault!!!

Give you some advice so you can post it all over the net....I don't think so. Now there are 149 other bull archery hunters who know three of your friends favorite places.

Best of luck your hunt.

Diesel , certainly not my intention to give away anyones honey hole. The purpose of stating these 3 areas is they form a hugh triangle of which covers hundreds of square miles. Thats why I'm reaching out for some help... I don't know where to start this scouting process. I've been hunting along time and value my friends and the information they share.

That is what is so great about Unit 1. Fantastic hunting in the whole unit. I may have come across a little harsh...sorry about that. If you have spoke with friends in person, I would probably go with their advice rather than that of a stranger on the internet. But, it appears that their are some willing to help you out.

I will offer this. A lot of archery hunters like to hunt in the Southwest part of the unit due to it being near the reservation. There will also be a bunch of guys video taping & calling bulls for the fun of it. It can get crowded there.

No harm , No foul, Diesel. I've taken harder shots than that from the cashier at the grocery store. Thanks for the input on the SW portion of the unit. I'll keep that in mind. Brian I PM you while I was at work tonight but it got bounced back. Could have been the firewalls at my job. I sent you another one from my home account. I hope it gets through.
