AZ game processing

Hello, I am new to the forum and drew AZ 7 East rifle (3rd choice). I searched the archives and did not find anything on this topic, although I am sure it has been discussed before. I live in the Phoenix area, and have used a butcher in Flagstaff that I am not happy with. I am looking for advice this year on where to take my bull (of course, assuming I get one!!) I want to eat the elk that I shot, not someone else?s. This includes ground. Any advice? Thanks.

spaz if i were you id read up and do it yourself that way you get your animal for sure i cut my elk up every year and its usually much better than a butcher its about a four hour job but you get your meat for sure

ditto what was said above. The only 100% way to get your own meat is to do it yourself. You don't need much of a set up to do it either. You can get everything you need for $150 bucks. A set of knives, a table or even better a heavy solid wood door to use as a cutting board. Wrapping paper, and a grinder. You don't need anything bigger than a garage, and it only takes a few hours. Plus you can grill it for lunch while cutting it.

It would be cheaper to buy your own setup to do it yourself than paying someone in Flagstaff then having to drive all the way back up there or have it shipped. Plus, there is an excellent book out there that gives step by step instructions on how/where/what to cut. Can't be beat.

It's Bush's fault!!!

If you are looking for a processor in the Flagstaff area, Caseys Processing is great (928-526-8348). I think that was your original question...

402 is right on. casey's is great i have been using them for years all my buddys use them.he does not "batch" ground and sausage types meats like alot of places do so this means you get "your elk" doing an elk is a nice thought but i did my little spped goat last year and no way am i taking on an elk.
hope that helps..good luck on your hunt.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-08 AT 02:22AM (MST)[p]Casey's is great! Also I've had good luck with Coconino game processing. Coconino processing is about 15 miles east of Flastaff on Cosnino Road. They make some awesome Summer Sausage also!

Thanks all. I will see if I can get some samples the from Casey's the next time I am up there. :)

There is also four peaks, based out of phoenix. They haul a huge freezer up to Clints Well between 6A and 5A. They have always done good for my family.

If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?

Another vote for 4 Peaks. I had a spike bull done by them and the product returned was as tender as could be. Can't guarantee that it was my elk, but the returned meat sure said it was. I dropped my bull off west of Clints Well on the Lake Mary road and they hauled it down the hill for me. They charged $20 for this, but it was a great service.

They are located just east of 19th Ave., and Bell. A little strip mall behind the Jack in the Box on the north side of Bell. Their store is in the far north corner of the strip mall. Its kind of tucked into a location that can be hard to find.

Sorry, do not have their number, but a quick web search will find it for you.

Another compliment for Casey's. I have had two deer and three elk done there. They have a #1 class operation with excellent service and you can't find friendlier people. Everything that we have selected has been great! I just look forward to going there just to talk to them.

I would not use Coconino or Rond's Butcher shop, JMO.

I have heard good things about Caseys in Flag.

Sportway in Williams has new ownership as I heard they did good last year.

good luck on your hunt...WOW, third choice bull...crazy!

i hear you. I had my lope skinned and quartered before AZ402 even got back to me with the truck and it was HOT. we got to casey's and there was a guy with a lope in the truck from the morning and it was't even skinned, and another guy with one that was at least skinned. YUK. And I donated the meat to the food pantry, I should have asked the guy if he wanted to trade LOL

im new here but for what its worth the older guys i work with recommend the maricopa skills center $0.35/lbs and they say the butchers' students do a good job. just my 2 cents

4 peaks is a real good deal for guys living in Phoenix.
Hall it to Clint's Well and they will skin, quarter and put it in their cooler. Then you can pick it up in town.

Take a kid hunting. You will enjoy it more than they do!
