Any ideas for Montana Units

My buddy and I drew the general archery deer and elk license. Does anyone know of a good unit to apply for with decent bucks and bulls? Also if there is a Montana archery hunter out there who wants to trade an awesome Montana hunt for an awesome Oregon hunt I'd be interested. Thanks

HKShooter:

Sorry, no help with Montana, but isn't "awesome Oregon hunt" am oxymoron?

Sorry, could not help myself.

If you have the general tag, you don't need to go any further. There are big bucks and bulls in every unit in the state, some units have more than others. If you plan on applying for a special permitt and plan a hunt around drawing that tag... you probably better have a back up plan.

Scout...Oregon is awesome to hunt. The country we hunt reminds me of the Rockies just not as big and the elk are plentiful. After 15 years of chasing them around all season long ya kinda figure things out. I've hunted Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming and I can say without a doubt that Oregon is an awesome hunt, especially if you know what I know. The problem for me is one bull and one buck just isn't enough.

Thanks for any info on backup areas.

NONRES:
License 76.50
Elk Tag 361.50
Deer Tag 264.50

All over the counter.

The deer tag is cool 'cause if you don't get a mule deer or black tail during regular archery season, you can hunt the black tails in the rut (late season). Also if you don't fill your elk tag, you can fill the freezer with a cow at the same time you're hunting the black tails.

I agree with Hk oregon bow hunting is great!! elk is o.k. but archery is the way to go in this state, and bank bonus pts for the future, I have hunted all over & some of the most adrenaline pumping hunts have occured during the late season bow hunt. send p.m & I will discuss what i know about montana, headed there myself nov 13, 08 for elk then eastern montana mule deer!!

Dog,

I'm not looking to kill the biggest bull in Montana, so I probably won't put in for the worst odds. I'm just looking for a good hunt with decent bulls and bucks. If I could apply for a "special" hunt with better odds and maybe smaller bulls, I would be in to that. That is what I'm looking for... a chance to fill a couple of tags and a good solid hunt. I just don't know what units that might be. Also if I don't draw, what is a good backup "general" unit or area?

Thanks for any useful info.
