Drew this tag. I live within about 1 hour of the unit so i plan on going down 2 days earlier and staying the whole hunt. Backpacking in as far as i need to, please give me some input. What do you guys think about it. You or anyone you know hunted this hunt and what they think. Might turn it back in but i keep on hearing it is a sleeper... If i could have a good hunt and pull off a 350 I would be satisfied

LAST EDITED ON Apr-30-08 AT 01:11PM (MST)[p]Yes. I spend many days every year on the backside chassing deer. Have hunted bear in Jack Canyon, and even archery elk hunted the front side years back. I have never been there during the dates of my hunt though. I would just like to know how other people's hunts went and what they experienced. Do the majority of the bulls head off the top ranches and head south towards desolation canyon, or north towards 9 mile? Please PM if any of you guys have spent time in the unit during the month of november. I'm in Emery county so I have spent alot of time on the unit just don't know where the bulls are that time of year. PM me, Thanks!!!

Hunt range creek north up by Dugout there are some nice animals all along there but it's rugged.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-30-08 AT 09:51PM (MST)[p]I'd hunt that unit, it is a sleeper and can produce, hunt the north border near the old nutter butter ranch, out towards jack Canyon. The last time I spoke with Blair Eastman, they were knocking down some real Hass's up there.

You might want to chat with some of the Bill Barret boys over there, they've been covering that area all late fall and all winter long.

Grew up in that area. I've muzzleload hunted a lot of that lower country in November. I would say from my experience that a majority of the elk in that country winter off the desolation canyon side. Although there are always a couple of smokers that winter on the 9 mile side.
