I finally drew after 9 years, and will be hunting the any weapon season. I'm planning on scouting in August and taking the entire hunt off from work. I can't wait, it's going to be a blast. Scott

Congratulations on the tag. The Nebo can be a very fun hunt, but it is rugged and has a lower success rate than most units. The unit has some great bulls on it, 380 is pretty much top end which seems big enough to me. We have killed a couple bulls off the unit. Get away from the roads. Chasing big bulls during the rut, that is all a guy can ask. Best of luck to you.

Like Packout said, it's a rugged mountain. It will be a heck of a fun hunt though. Good luck!

Scott,
You dog! Great news. Don't forget to pack a camera or two! do you have a crew heading over for the season?

We have spent quite a few weeks on that range. Send me a PM and I can put you on to a great area. Best of luck.

sjhgraysage, Good to hear from you, I will definately be taking plenty of pictures. As of yet, I don't have anybody lined up to go with, although I suspect that my dad will probably want to tag along. I'm already feeling like a kid waiting for Christmas.

wapitifever, I sent you that PM, thanks for the help. Scott

I too will be out there, I believe I had 8 bounus points for the draw. Gonna be my first time in Utah. and what a way to start. "Early Bull tag Any weapon". I can Dig it!!!!

Scott.....that is GREAT NEWS!!! Congrats on drawing that sweet tag. Let me know if I can help you with some scouting duties. Between the burn areas on Nebo and the awesome moisture this year..I think there should be some bulls with some great antler growth.

Packout... What you smokin man??!?! 380?? LOL! J/K w/ ya man! After seeing what I saw on the winter range this year, it's looking pretty bleak... This just might be the last "decent" year on Nebo. With the number of cow tags the DWR is giving, and upping the number of mature bull tags, (again). It's getting tougher and tougher! I have some good friends that drew it as well, so we'll be up there poundin it too! Hope to see you guys up there! Good luck!

Any thoughts as to which end of this unit is better? I prefer to hunt away from the crowds, and don't mind rugged country. Do the elk and hunter numbers decrease as you go south, increasing the likelyhood of solitude and escapement of the bulls, or am I better off in the northern half? Any thoughts or helpful info would be greaty appreciated so that I might start making plans for a scouting trip or two. Thanks, Scott

p.s. I live in WA, so I'm planning on doing a lot of "pre-scouting" from the computer, maps, and telephone.

The north end gets hunted less, but access can be a little tricky, there are a few remote spots that get hunted very little if at all.

Thanks for the reply 325, I've been pouring over the maps this morning, and saw some areas up north that look appealing. Is access tricky because of private property, or because of lack of roads to access these areas. Would you be willing to PM me some specifics? Also, What about the wilderness around Nebo? Thanks, Scott

Thanks for the reply 325, I sent one back to you. Anybody else out there got any helpful info? Thanks to everyone who has responded. Scott

There are still a few really good bulls on the public portions of the unit, I suspect though that you're chances for a 350 + bull would be better on the private land.It was a great unit 5 years ago but has been on a steady decline, both in quality and quantity. I think that the private lands may hold a significant number of the counted animals on the unit. If you work hard and get LUCKY, you may still find a 350 bull to chase. However, I hope you won't be disappointed with a 300 - 320 bull.
