I'm pretty excited to have drawn the Cache North late rifle elk hunt. I drew with only 3 points. My neighbor also drew with 0 points!

We should have an excellent hunt. I know elk numbers are down a lot, but there are some good ones out there and I'm willing to work for one (I'm starting to get in shape now). I'm going to start scouting next week and working on getting access to some areas.

Any idea how many permits were given for this hunt?

Any recommendations on locations, etc.?

Congrats! It can be a tuff hunt. A co-worker ate tag soup on last years late hunt and was disappointed that he did'nt get a bull. Scouting now won't help. Bulls will move to summer range, rut areas, and then post rut areas. Scouting to learn the area and roads would be helpful. The best bulls will be isolated or in small groups. If you can get access to private above Richmond would be helpful. Most hunters with this tag will not shoot a 6 point bull. There are a few dandy bulls. Good luck.

Thanks huntin100. Yeah, I'm just getting to know the area better and some good potential spots. Above Richmond is a great spot and I have access to it - though I'm going to go wherever the elk are. I like the challenge of the late hunt - bulls that are out of the rut, have been chased a bit, aren't with the cows, but not yet in bachelor groups. I know it will be tough, but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

I'd *really* like a 6X6. I'll be happy with any nice bull, but won't be shooting anything that won't go on the wall.

if you drew the late tag congrats. north cache is a tough hunt but there are some awesome bulls on the north cache. The one thing you need to know is around the first part of november most of the elk will be migrating to the south cache unit. if you want pm me i have some spots you might be able to take a big bull out of. I have personally seen bulls that hit the 400 inch mark on the north cache one of which was harvested by some one on the rifle hunt 3 years ago. you will probably see more 330-350 bulls than you care for but the big ones are there.
