My ol man and I applied for this unit again this year. While we were applying their was a couple of guys in line who hunted this unit last year and said there were some good bulls in it if a guy hunted hard. That is all a guy can ask for, right. Also these guys offered to show us some places on a map if we drew. I just wanted to point out that there are still good people out there and I believe this is how it should be, people helping each other. It takes so long to draw these units today that I'm willing to share info. with other people. It will probably be 10 plus years before I get to hunt this unit again and my father will probably not be around or able to go in that time. So why not share info.?

Just my $.02 thats all.

Great post slide, and i totally agree!

I put the post about help on The San Juan unit for a friend of mine who isn't even a member of MM, yet my PM box if chuck full of emails from members volunteering information simply to help out!

I offer my own services to members as well, anytime i can offer up something to a fellow MM "friend", i will jump through hoops to do it.
No secrets here when it comes to LE units!!

And when i offer some helpful info to a person and they are more successful because of it....it makes ME successful as well. :)

Unfortuntaley, i don't have anything on Mt Emily, i don't even know where the hell it is!

But if i did?......

Agreed - this is a good post. When you can only draw a tag for an area maybe every 10-15 years why not help out. I'm a Oregon hunter, drew my first antelope tag last year after 11 years yet some folks wouldn'd help give info for the unit I drew??? Even though it will probably be another 11-15 year to draw another so I'd be happy to help someone on tough to draw units, not exactly like giving away your "secret spot". Good luck of you draw - I have hunted Mt. Emily a few times - check your private message.

Slide, Thank you for starting such a great post. I've drawn a Monroe archery tag in Utah, and I can't believe how generous some of the hunters back there have been with offers of advice and access assistance, etc. It makes you feel good to know that there are such fine people who don't feel like they have to keep good information to themselves. It also makes me feel that I have an obligation to help others who follow behind me in the units I've come to know.

I've got 9 points for everything in Oregon and was going to apply for Mt. Emily. Since I've drawn Monroe, it'll just be points again for everything in Oregon.

Slide,

I replied to your PM and I will help you out when you draw. This is the Main reason I spend time on the sight. I don't fault someone for not giving out a honey hole but some of these tags are once in a lifetime or every 10 to 20 years. There are some great hunters that frequent this site, help someone out and it may come back to you in the future. I have been on the receiving end of some great information when I asked for it. Slide, I hope you and your dad get your tags.

Slide - great post. I think the generosity stems from a love of hunting and just being able to enjoy somebody elses success. For myself, I just like helping others when I can because, if I'm lucky, I may get to hunt those big ol bulls for myself 1 more time in my life and that's just not enough. There are people on this site that have helped me out with information and I appreciated it. For the most part, hunters help hunters. If you are willing to do a little research on your own there are a lot of guys on this site that will help you out without knowing your last name. Hell, without knowing your first name for that matter. Have I been burned before for helping other people out? Sure. But that happens less than 1% of the time. I can't remember the last time I gave out information to somebody that didn't appreciate it. All I ask for is a picture and a good story to go along with it. I have made some great friends over the years by just answering a call for help.

It's always an adventure!!!
