what are your thoughts on this unit for elk....public vs private, quality, herd #s. I drew a tag for the early hunt and am wondering if I should turn it back in...any help will be appreciated.....

YES you should turn it back in! Nothing but a "pisscutt'n" unit. You could take a bigger bull on a general spike hunt I'm affraid.

Ok, all kidding aside. Could be a great tag. I think someone posted some pics of a very nice 400" (or close to it) back in 2006. Was a great bull and some fantastic pics. You didn't really put in for a unit you know zero about did you?

You don't know the area and no access to 85 % of the land, because it is private. I would turn in the tag if I were you.

I guess if you know nothing of the unit and dont have time to learn, it would come down to how many points you have, if you got lucky with low points and drew you would be crazy to turn it in. if you have 8+ points that would be different.

Shoot me a PM, I'll give you a few pointers on this unit. Not an upper tier unit, but there are some 370+ bulls running lose on PUBLIC land. Don't turn that tag back in!!!

Funny that you are thinkin' of turnin' that tag back in and I have been trying to draw that tag for a few years now. (Archery Tag anyways). I am with Pro, don't turn that tag back in. Shoot me a PM and maybe I can give ya some tips.

the last weekend in april i saw a few bulls on that range.one of them was grown out 2 1/2 feet already but the others only had about a foot of growth.just spend some time over there and you should be able to harvest a bull in the 340-365 range. GOOD LUCK!

I spend a lot of time riding those hills and watching the elk.
The early hunt is a slam dunk, just depends on what you're looking for. I haven't seen any 400 class bulls but there are a few really good bulls. Most bulls from the Oquirrh's have short 3'rds which hurts their score. If you're set on a 400 bull or nothing turn the tag back in, but if a 350 - 360 bull with a chance at one a little bigger will do it's an easy hunt. I'd be happy to tag along. Give me a call if you need some help. We can take my horses in and make the pack out easy.

NOW THAT IS WHAT MM IS ALL ABOUT! GREAT POST WES! YOU ARE THE MAN. MY VOTE FOR SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR ALREADY.

I agree with PRO and Wes......keep the tag and get in there. If you want any more info on the unit....PM me. I've personally seen some GOOD bulls early on.
