Mount Problem/Question

All right guys, I would appreciate some help on this one.

I just discovered those damned little moths that eat clothes and such in the hair on my only elk mount. My old man had it mounted for me when I was a kid and I don't want any damage to come to it. Everything seems to be in good shape but for the little tan moths... Right now I've got the head wrapped in a garbage bag with some moth balls that aren't touching it as I don't know what will work best.

So, do you guys have any methods for saving my old mount and on how to keep these things away from it in the future?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Cody

Some bug bombs in your trophy room every year is a good idea.

As far as damage done I dont know. Can also take a bug bomb and spray directly onto the mount before you bomb the whole room.

If you have a good Taxidermist in the area check with them. Your problem is not uncommon. I think they have some treatment that is effective but I can't remember what it is. A good Taxi will know. Good Luck. C.C.

Take your wife's Vacuum cleaner and attach the small head used for curtins, vacuum the whole hide and make sure that you go with the grain of the hair. You should be doing it every 6 months for maintenence.

Protex Mount Care protects hair, fur and feathers from moth and insect damage. Not only is it safe and easy to use, but it won't wash out either. It can be used for new mounts or existing ones. Wipe the product onto the hair or add it to the sawdust in a fur drum. Protex Mount Care is not water-soluble.
