Here's some pics of Craig's buck. He killed this buck in CA, with a G6 tag. We scouted the two weekends prior to season and saw lots of bucks but no good ones. This buck was the 20th. buck we saw. He's a couple of inches shy of what we were looking for, but a very respectable buck for CA.

Great buck. California has got to be tough with the low deer numbers. Congrats on a trophy.....Allen Taylor......

Congratulations Craig on a beautiful and symmetrical buck.

what's the problem with Cali's deer herds ? too many predators? crappy management or what ?

Lets see where to start.....Cali residents havn't hunted Cats since the early 60's......my favorite mule deer unit went from 25 muzz tags down to 4...yeh the herds are in big trouble...but cats are the bigest problem we have.....

Cats are as big of problem as you let them bee.I live in NorCal and our problem gets smaller every time we see one.

All of the above. Too many lions, coyotes, and people. I know how to take care of two out of the three, though! A person can kill two bucks every year also. I like two deer tags but it makes it tough for the bucks to grow up. Anyways, tomorrow I'm going to get the horns from Craig and measure them. Anybody care to make a guess on the score?

Nice looking golden state buck! You definately earned him in this state. Thanks for posting.

Ca does not have low deer numbers. I'll bet they have 10X the number of deer that NV, NM, or AZ has.

I would agree, we might not have the big mule deer numbers that some of the other states have... but the black tail population is huge. When I lived in Morgan Hill (South SF bay area) we had 100's of deer living right in residential areas and all through the fringe areas of the property's inside and outside of town, problem is that there is no huntable public land for virtually hundreds of miles and lots of non-hunting landowners. If you own or have access to public land anywhere along the central coast all the way up to the north coast you are privy to fantastic blacktail hunting... and can shoot two deer per year, which with all the un-hunted private land has virtually no effect on the population.

How can you count a herd you can't hunt or a protected herd for that matter, I'm talking in SisQ county, I've watched our herd drop by at least 70% in ten years....
