Has anyone heard where the largest muley was harvested in Colorado this year ? I have seen one buck that grossed 205 and change taken archery season in the Raggeds Wilderness. Also heard of another buck taken rifle in 105 that netted over 200 but have not seen it in person. Anyone hear any different ? Last year unit 61 had the biggest in state well over 200 net.

A know of a few typicals that will net over 200, a handful of nontypicals in the 250 and a bit bigger class.

Gunnison almost certainly will win that race
The Gov tag and the MDF tag has harvested in
Gunnison. I heard of a 245 and a possible 260 plus
from this year. At least 8 have grossed over
200 this year that I have heard. Roy in Montrose

roy in montrose

I hunted in 65 this year and took a decent 24in 4x4, however, I seen some monster bucks come into the taxidermy shop. One of which will gross around 230 and at least 6 more that will gross just over 200. Send me your email and i'll shoot you over some pictures.

p.s. what is the unit over by gunnnison that is a 500 something unit. and about how many points would it take me to draw. Seen a really heavy 3x4 with a 30plus inch spread come off there. email me if you don't want to post [email protected]

You might address the answer by asking where
the Gov tag was taken the last few years.
Answer Gunnison unit 54. Roy in Montrose

Since everyone else is asking, what is everyone's opinion of 161, 6 and 7 near WY state line?

Searchin' for a 4 X 4

Searcher, I've been hunting 161 since 1988, and I have taken/seen some good bucks from there. Last year I took a 25 inch 5x5. Never have had it scored, but would guess about 165-170 net.

Thanks Ken. I've never hunted these areas but I've been across the border in WY. Do you need preference points to draw these areas (nonresident ?)

What do you all think about about these hunts for taking a nice 24" plus buck?

-18 3rd season rifle
-751 4th season rifle
-78 3rd season rifle
-5 3rd season rifle

I've been doing a lot of research on the web about these zones. We are planning a nice fun hunt with family and want some good chances at some decent bucks. Thanks.

Unit 18 also gives you unit 28, 37, and 371. I hunted 28 last year and shot a decent 4x4. saw lots of deer (and hunters) and of course a couple bigger ones got away! Jeff

Searcher, you need probably one or two preferance points. I say this because it usually takes one for residents, but only 40% of tags go to nonresidents, so that is a slightly lower chance. Are you thinking of going to 161 in the future?

Ken
