LAST EDITED ON Jun-18-08 AT 08:55PM (MST)[p]Drew 2nd rifle elk for Valle Vidal. Would greatly appreciate any info about the unit. Thanks and good luck to all this huntin season.

my dad drew that hunt also either have horses or be prepared to hike a long long ways every day.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-08 AT 09:05AM (MST)[p]I know a man that used to guide in the valle vidal and he has stories from killing 350" bulls from the main road and killing bulls six or seven miles deep. There are elk everywhere in that area and you should have very little trouble finding elk. Congrats on a great draw. According to this man I know he said he killed the majority of the bigger bulls on the north end around the rim rock. Just north of the camping area! Good luck and keep us informed.

make sure you have tire plugs and a good spare. Some roads are tire popping SOB's. When I was there the elk were scattered. one day you were in them thick, the next maybe just a few. But like others say, they can be anywhere but unless your lazy (we saw lots of lazy guys in the camp ground) you can get into good bulls daily. We saw guys on the archery hunt at the camp grounds with spikes, and real dinks of rag horns and they complained they never saw a 6X the whole time. Cannot imagine what kind of effort they put forth to say that. Hunt hard, you will do good.

Me and a hunting buddy drew in '05. Being that it's OIL tag we didn't want to screw it up so we hired an outfitter.

Great, great hunt though. We did both end up shooting 6x6's. I saw more elk in one day there than I have on all of my other 6 or 7 elk hunts combined.

I don't think they're shooting many in there over 330" lately though. Still, an awesome area...probably better described as an "elk farm."

Here's the one I took:

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you like.
