Never been on this unit before. Looking for a little help, where to start, etc. Going to hunt without a Guide. Will be hunting the third archery season. A little help from the MonsterMuley crew would be awsome. Thanks

BigRacks I have never hunted the unit either, but looking for some good info as well. I drew the 2nd rifle tag this year I have been trying to gather as much info as possible before the hunt. we should talk, I would like to see how you do on your hunt and maybe we can share info to help each other out.

I have hunted it once and there are lots of elk. The biggest I saw was only a 340. I would recommend you talk to the biologist for the unit. I hunted it six or seven years ago and things change...

Anyway, you have some great Karma drawing that tag. Wish you luck.

Hunted the unit awesome place . Who is your Guide that means a lottt.

Pm me for info.

Bull

Being that you have spent a lot of time on this unit, what size of bulls are on the unit? No one really says the size of the bulls.

Every year I see bulls in the 380+ that being said there are lots of bulls in the 340 to 360 class. if it is a DIY or a guided hunt you should be seeing big bulls if your not move spots. I will be scouting down ther in the next few weeks and will post a pic or two of what i find.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-01-08 AT 08:41AM (MST)[p]Shot a 365 in the first rifle hunt a few years ago. Lots of 310 to 340 bulls. He was the biggest i saw. Only scouted one day and hunted one day....thats how it went. Buddy also took a nice 320 bull that day. Great hunt!

My hands down favorite unit. RabidRattlesnake and I will be in 16B this year, though. D is just too hard to draw.

We like the southern portion of the unit, but have done very well in northern part of it as well. In fact, we've gotten into elk in every portion of that unit we've looked for them.

There are big bulls in this unit, and the bull-to-cow ratio is excellent. If you do your work and spend the time in the field you should see several 350+ bulls. 400" bulls are hard to find no matter where you are, but I know this unit has a few.

When the rut gets going, the bulls are very vocal, but don't expect them to come running to calls.

There are lots of roads in the unit, but many of the old logging roads are closed. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop the asshats on the 4 wheelers from wandering all over the freakin place.

There are elk everywhere in this unit...including right by the major roads, so leave the damned 4 wheeler at camp and use it for packing out your bull only!!

On the rifle hunts, try to research areas in which you can get away from the roads a bit...especially on the later hunt.
