Great buck, congratulations. That is about what I consider a perfect buck. Nice width, tons of mass and I love those dark antlers.
Good Job.

Very nice for a last minute "to settle for" buck.
Again, Congratulations!

Very Nice, Congratulations! Whats he go, 177? What day did you end up getting him on?

HS

Good job man....that's a sweet "last minute" buck!! I can imagine the pressure you were feeling, but I gotta give ya an attaboy for holding out as long as you did.

Congratulations....but you know where gonna want to see more pics!:)

Nice job Sam from the Forks guys!! It was a tough year to have the tag of a lifetime but you made the most of it and probably made a lot of hunting buddies for life too. The pressure is off now enjoy the new year. Scott

A beautiful Washington buck, congrats again on using the tag to take a nice animal, you showed much determination, it was fun to follow along with how your season was going.

I posted a detailed story on the update post, but will give a quick highlight. Hunted about almost four weeks throughout Entiat, Swakane, Manson, Alta, Blewett and the Desert Units. Counting the hunt in the Desert Unit, I saw 165 bucks.

I had til the 31st, but could only hunt til the 30 which is the day I shot him. Passed up several I was starting to kick myself for not shooting, but like I always say, "You kill a little one early in the hunt and you can't eat your tag when it's all over!"

He's a heck of a buck for a last minute consolation prize.
Gross 182 5/8 (about 190 without the busted tines)
Net 174 2/8 (mostly from the two busted tines)
Mass 42 4/8 with 6 3/8" bases (can barely touch my thumb and middle finger around the bases)
Outside Spread 28 3/8
Inside Spread 24 4/8

Thanks again to everybody for all the input. Learned a lot of new country and made a bunch of new friends. Got to share it with my dad and it will add to our good memories.

Maybe one of you guys will be the lucky sucker next year to be chasing big bucks around in December. Thanks for the post browtine. Everybody have a great year and good luck in the 2005 draws!!!

Sam

MDC, Great Last Minute Buck! It's a great buck for any kind of hunt! Looks like you took him in one of the burned timber thickets in one of the entiat units? Again, congrats!

Michael~All Gods creatures welcome... right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-05 AT 08:50AM (MST)[p]One of the burned units? It's all burned for miles in every direction! Ain't much to look at, but the deer sure like it!!!

Mud & Potatoe Baby - That's the place to be!!!

Sam:

He's a beauty!! Thanks for all the updates and the great story.
You did well regardless of the weather or the state. He'll look good on the wall!!!!

The more I look at him the more I think you maximized your potential, even though a little luck played a big part at the end. One thing about luck though, it aint gonna happen less you are out in the woods!

That is an awesome Washington buck. Congrats!

VERY respectable consolation prize... the rest of us should be so lucky as to have a chance at a hunt like that...

Congratulations!

Love the buck! Congratulations! Anybody know how the Governors Tag holder did?

I'm trying not to look a gift horse in the mouth, he's a beautiful buck from anywhere, let alone WA. I tried to earn it. Like you said, you have to spend the time out there even to get lucky.

Last I heard the Auction hunter had only planned to spend a few days of the last week or so, in the Entiat, on filling his tag. Haven't yet heard how he did, but based on the effort I was putting into it, I'm not too optimistic?

Congrats on a real solid trophy buck. The story and your effort are what make it even more special. That's a memory that you'll always be able to hold pretty close. Way to go!

NICE JOB. MAN THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FUN! CAN YOU TELL US WHAT DATES YOU HUNTED THE DESERT UNIT AND WHAT DID YOU SEE???

I focused on the Desert early, trying to catch the bucks in their bachelor groups. Saw 17 bucks, but nothing even close to being a shooter. I know they're there, but never figured out where/how to hunt it to find them.

A couple coyotes won't be having a Happy New Year though!

A dandy !
My bud got a similar looking & size buck In the Methow on a special tag also. The of course we all saw one the next day chasing does in the sage that went 198 and 2/8 I think, we had to find a tag holder and he shot him the next day

Lets see some pics, I saw at the outfitter show an outfitter that had pics of two B&C bucks his clients took this past year, one on the late tag, the other general season.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-05 AT 02:47PM (MST)[p]The buck was taken by my buddy on the north side of Loup Loup,
I think it was still in Pearrygin,He had the statewide tag you get for turi=ning in your hunt info, kind of a governors tag
, no pics of him, the buddy's buck was already at the taxidermist in Twisp when I got there, this was after the general season around the 12th of Nov,
4 of us were whitetail hunting (special tags) and scouting for him as well, the buck was shot the morning I got there , I got there after work about 7pm, I saw his pics at work.
I have no pics of it.

The big one( 198) was taken on the Chewack

The big buck was spotted by my group at 300+ yds the day after my bud shot his, we saw him from the road so my digital camera was no good for pictures and I had no adapter for the spotting scope.
All the info we got on the kill and the bucks score was second hand but from a reliable source in the methow valley, I can say we watched him for an hour breed does it was impressive to know there are really nice deer that come in after the season.

Very good thanks
I got a nice 4x4 not huge but I was happy
the rest of the guys got a 3x, a spike and a another fatter thicker 4x, all whitetails in the bottoms.
