i hunted the route natl. forest about 6 years ago wasted too much time hunting elk,the blm land down lower east of the hwy was ablast to hunt mulies in saw a couple of bucks in 25" range but got foiled is there still bucks in this area? i understand there to be over 1 million acres between the hwy and wyoming.

More deer than you can shake a stick at in the Craig area. Bucks over 25" aren't very common. They exhibit a substantial seasonal migration from September to November. As long as you have realistic expectations of what kind of bucks the area might produce, you should have a good hunt if you hike away from the roads.

thanks for the reply i just really enjoyed hunting that flat sage/juniper country down by the wyo border, wasn't too impressed with the elk hunting way way to many people
