RangeFinders...Nikon or Bushnell???

I'll probably be looking at getting a new laser rangefinder.

I was wondering if anyone had their choice between the two which would pick Nikon or Bushnell rangefinders.

My main criteria is that the rangefinder is not too bulky, I'm looking for something more compact. Also, quality. Not EXPENSIVE quality, but the quality compared between the two.

What has been heard, both positive and negative about either.

Thanks

I got a Bushnell Legend rangefinder for xmas and i really like it, its small and compact, its waterproof, floatable. cabelas has them for 350 i think, i got mine on ebay for 300 brand new.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-07-05 AT 09:47AM (MST)[p]I bought the nikkon 800 rangefinder for $350 two years ago, I bought it over the bushnell because I thought it was better quality. My brother bought the bushnell and when we compared the two they were made by the same company, it was the same product with different names on them, go with the bushnell it's $50 cheaper.

I've had a Yardage Pro Compact for years now... still works great, no issues or problems other than remembering to put a new battery in it each year.

I've had the bushnell legend for 2 years now. works great on animals to about 400 yards. To get it to read past that must have a very solid target like huge trees or boulders and that works to maybe 600 yards. To read to max 946 yards must be something like a house or barn. But then again who likes to take a 400+ yard shot? sneakem

Have you tried the Optics and Hunting Gear forum here at MM? Theres some good info there.

Are you set on those 2, I use the Leica it is not much more expensive just a little larger but man is it rugged and dependable. They are by far the best optics in the range finder field. Of course that is just my opinion.

offhuntn is right. A friend of mine owns a camera store but also carries Nikon sporting optics like scopes, binocs, and rangefinders. Last time I talked to him he told me Bushnell and Nikon rangefinders were made by the same company. I have a Nikon 800, but my first one was defective right out of the box, and Nikon's customer service sucks. mtmuley
