Payson Canyon Help

We are heading up to a family reunion up to Payson Lakes next week and my 12 yr old and I plan on doing some hiking while we are there. My son has drawn the Youth Any Bull tag and we are hunting the Soapstone area out of Kamas, so I have no vested interest in the Payson area other than a little camera hunting for summer Elk. Any location suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There are elk scattered all over that canyon. You'll find cows and yearlings very close to Payson Lakes at this time of year. The bulls tend to hang out in the rougher, thicker cover during the summer. Lots of places to glass, too. You can take a drive farther up the canyon and there are several places to pull off and glass. Or, you can pick a likely looking side canyon and go for a hike. You're likely to find them just about anywhere. They're not necessarily behind every bush, but I would say pretty much every side canyon has some in it.
