I noticed in the WY proclamation that there are several hunts in November in region F, but it is an easy draw and I have never heard much about it. I also noticed that they had 4 point or better rules in most of those areas. I am not familar with that area, what kind of country is it, and how is the hunting? Does anybody have any stories or experiece with that area? Rut hunting always catches my attention and I just wondered what the deal was. Thanks for sharing.

I kind of had the same question. I know parts of F you have to have a guide but mostly you don't. The hot spots in F are harder to draw like 119, but for the most part all of F is an easy draw. Isn't the Throroughfare in F? I know there are lots of grizzlies and several people I know won't hunt there because of that. I know a guy that shot a respectable deer out of F this year and said he saw plenty of bucks but only a handful of bigger bucks. Isn't that how it always is though. Somebody on here must know something? Lets hear it.

I heard a rumor something about Sunlight or sunshine basin..?...was best area to start......

Daxter, I have been hunting F for the last 5 years and where to start is the big question, it is a big area and has everything from elk, muledeer, whitetail, antelope and so on.We have been to Sunlight basin and it is an awsome area but it does have big bears and it opens early, so by the time we get there(Nov 1st) there has been some pressure. If you get some good storms though the deer and elk work there way through there so dont count it out. We have hunted north, south, east, and west of Cody which is kinda the center focal point for Region F,at least for us.As we build up the years of experience there we find out what places are good and what are not,and weve also learned that it depends on weather and pressure. One thing you really need to do is check out maps of the area and research where the private and public lands are. There are tons of deer in that area that time of year and with weather they start to rut and migrate but alot of the deer you will see will be on private land so do your research before you decide. If you are lookin for a trophy area, like it has been mentioned look into 109 for a special draw,as far as the rest of the region its up to you too find the big boy and remember its not region g,or h, but good bucks can be had.
Here are some pics of some of the animals weve taken in F and Ive seen others take bigger and smaller, hope this helps.

Wow! Thanks for all the photos. I was wondering what land ownership was like up there. Thanks for all the info. Looks like a neat area with some good possibilities. Like a lot of places, do the homework and spend the time and eventually it will pay off, looks like it has for you. Thanks again.

Is there any decent public, non-wilderness areas in the Cody area for deer? Been up there in the summer, but I was pretty much under the impression you needed to go guided in the Cody area as a nonresident.
