Early archery elk in Utah?

I am new to this site as of today and it looks like a lot of good information. I am going to be hunting the early archery elk season in Utah; because of my profession I don't have a lot of options. Anyway, I am looking at the Marsh Peak area which is Northwest of Dry Fork. I would really like to hear any comments, suggestions or any other information you would be willing to part with. At this point I don't have real high expectations but sure would like to see some critters and maybe even attempt a stalk or two. If my odds of this are slim I would really appreciate suggestions. If you would like to e-mail me that would be great [email protected] Thank you.

Dry Fork northwest of Vernal and yes it is only a anybull over the counter tag.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-10-08 AT 09:01PM (MST)[p]I've seen a few elk not far from there, in an area a little more west of there.

Talked to guys who elk hunt there and read a few articles on it. Search back a few years on the web and either espn or outdoor life or one of the major folks did an article on it.

You need to get away and up on the mountain to give yourself the best chance possible.

Two of the people I went (deer hunting) with for the rifle hunt, scouted during the archery hunt. They saw a large number of hunters.

Get away from the roads to give yourself a better shot. I know that is not much, but it is some good country.

I hunt there for the rifle usually, have been wanting to archery but didn't want to run into bears. Now that I got my concealed weapons permit I feel better about it. But its a great area. If you are going to Marsh Peak itself take a bike, horses or plan on a long walk in. Another area lower is Charlies Park. I know some guys that go down there every year and usually get a couple of bulls. I know there is potential for both areas. Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it because I think this whitetail hunter is going to need as much help as possible.

I didn't mean any disrespect by saying only an over the counter tag. I'm pumped for the whole hunting experience; I just don't want to have to high of expectations and then be crushed by not even seeing anything (been there before). Having the string drawn back on a big bull has got to be an unbelievable rush which at this point I can only imagine. Thank much for the responses.
