Paunsaugunt Elk

LAST EDITED ON Jul-11-08 AT 03:30PM (MST)[p]Hello all. I recieved notice from the UDWR last week that someone had turned in a limited entry elk tag for the Paunsaugunt. This is the limited entry rifle hunt in mid Sepember. They asked if I wanted it and of course I jumped at a chance that is very rare in Utah. So now I am behind the curve as far as scouting goes.

I am looking for information about the Paunsaugunt. What type of bulls can be found. I want to set some realistic expectations. Maybe a starting point for scouting. I will be headed that way several times before the hunt but could use any advice about this area.

What hunt? As for scouting I don't think you are to far behind, still plenty of time. Stay high and south of Tropic Res. to Podunk. Good starting place. Might get lucky close to highway 12 too.

Not alot of elk on that unit either. My uncle killed a 330 bull a few years back.

This is the limited entry rifle hunt in mid September. I have heard that a 330 bull is a definate possibility. Any thoughts on that would be helpful.

Another tag is getting turned back in for a mzzy LE bull tag.

I thought he would wait a little longer but diesel is kissing $5 a gallon and he is turning his tag back.....sad deal....

That is sad. I am planning on going and staying the entire hunt. I am lucky and have tons of vacation to use. The scouting trips are going to cost a ton.
