Hey, I saw your posting to a guy back in Dec. You sound like someone I would like to get a little information from. I would love to come over to CO on a Muzz hunt this fall! A buddy told me the area Southwest of Silt is pretty good. I'm not particularly looking for a "trophy" hunt, just an area with a good number of deer.(Although a big buck would make my day!). I'm a cop out here in SLC, Ut and getting time off for the hunts is sometimes difficult so I would maybe only get to hunt for a couple of day's. I'd rather come out there and hunt an area with good deer populations and have a chance at taking something "decent" rather than come out and spend the whole hunt looking for Mr. Big. What is the area like. Is it all Forest Service or is it some private/some public? Is access good? Any info would be greatly appreciated!! One more thing, I haven't received my Colorado regs yet, is the first muzz hunt out there in Sept. and is it likely that I could get a tag or not. Thanks!!!!

UTtight,

I assume you are talking about unit 42? I live in Unit 41 and hunt it for deer during 3rd rifle. The reason I hunt it is it is in my front yard. There is potential for a good buck but I haven't got one (a big one) yet. The area I hunt would not be much good for blackpowder, it's real low and it is hot that time of year. You could probably do much better with a different western Colorado unit.

When you draw unit 41 it also includes units 421, and 42. I've never hunted them so I won't be able to comment on them. I have friends who hunt 42 for elk and do well but not for deer.

Sorry I couldn't help you more.
